    Think of the technological and medical advances that we did achieve through war and destruction! If there's a war that requires hoverboards, we may be able to realise this fantasy within the next year or so!

    I dont believe it will be a singular cause. I believe it will be a combination of willful ignorance and apathy.

    Consider how vested interested and certain politicians are trying to label 'global warming' a leftwing hippie crazy tale - rather than cold, hard scientific fact. And add to that the unwillingness to invest in alternative energy forms to take over from the very imminent demise of liquid fossil fuels and so on.

    Modern civilization == Energy. It is the one characteristic which defines our modern lifestyle, everything we do, eat, and care about is all derived from it. And we rely on it being plentiful and above all - cheap.

    Yet politicians etc think the party of oil and coal will go on forever. Alas, it will not.

    The failure to address this before it is too late will be the demise of modern civilization as we know it.

    The bacteria that live inside us will hit bad times, probably a property crash leading to a banking crisis. They will all go on welfare and realise that its not that bad sitting around in the large intestine doing shag all rather than killing themselves working for the elite microbials from the gut.

    The microbials will get pissed cos the bacteriums wont contribute and will cut their welfare to force them to work. Bacteriums will respond by rioting throughout the gastrointestinal tract causing widespread upheaval and upset stomachs. Further economic problems will ensue, peanuts will lose all value and peoples saving disappear, fighting will erupt and spread throughout the body escalating into a civil war and resulting in a massive emigration via the anus.

    Leaving humans to die a slow and painful scuttery death while the bacteriums move to Australia to work in kangaroos and live the good life.

    I like that highly unlikely end where an experiment at CERN goes into a chain reaction creating either another Big bang or a blackhole. It would be so instantaneous that it would all be over for the solar system and beyond in less time then the impulse that fires to make your eye blink.

    And another irony is if it is a black hole all information is lost and not a trace of Earth or us will be left anywhere in the whole universe.

    Impossible to say. Could easily be any of these things in the poll. We are long overdue "an extinction event" - could be cosmic or geological. We are also more than capable of wiping ourselves off the face of the earth.

    Women also produce stem cells, plus you don't need an embryo anymore to create stem cells.

    So women can now propagate women kind and men if they choose without sex, or without men. But we still need women to have babies.

    So we are doomed the war of the sexes is over.

    yer right,we can get stem cells from other sources,it's just that article said they used embryos.

    "the sperm cells in the current study were generated from embryos discarded by fertility clinics"

    Wouldn't it be more worthwhile if they worked on creating children completely outside the womb so that women wouldn't need to go through childbirth.

    I reckon Im pretty prepared too! Have Plan A and Plan B......have to tweak it a bit and stock the boot of the car. My family laugh at me but I tell them.....if you fail to plan, you plan to fail

    Surely since the CDC in the U.S. are asking us to prepare for zombies then maybe we should??

    Seriously of all the things that could go wrong for habitation on this fair planet of ours, the worst in the history of Earth was Global warming.

    It happened before and it will happen again. The temperature of the Earth increased steadily by 8 degrees 250 million years ago which caused the Triassic Permian extinction event, also known as the great dying. It wiped out 96% of marine life and 80% of all land based life.

    What happens is the temperature of the sea increases to a point when all the methane hydrate are released at once en-mass trillions of tonnes of it and it ignites, also that heats the Earth up more turning all the land into a desert for 100,000 years.

    Some say we are on the road to this and arriving there rapidly. So just 5 more degrees to go and the coastal seas catch fire, it would be good to see I suppose.
