Are there Pyjama People in your neighbourhood?

I just caught the end of a program there. It was about working class female kids in Dublin who wear pyjamas all the time. I've seen them mentioned the odd time on Boards, but honestly thought it was just some running joke... I never realised that it was a fashion of sorts.

There was even a shop dedicated to selling pyjamas.

Having never seen anyone wear pyjamas outside the house (apart from myself the odd time when I go outside to empty the bins before I go to bed), I found it odd that I've never seen anyone dressed like this except on the TV.

Which got me wondering - is it just a Dublin phenomenon? How far reaching is this "fashion"? And are there Pyjama People in your neighbourhood?

Every city/town/village has at least one! Just check your local tesco or outside your local primary school in the morning

I haven't seen any locally personally, only when I'm out and about in the car.

I don't live in a working class or social housing area though.

Last week I saw a group of females in their late teens or early twenties wearing pyjamas. I think this was only the second time I've ever seen anyone out in public dressed like this.

Not in my neighbourhood because I live in the sticks with few houses nearby but have seen it in the local town. I think it has died down a bit now with some shops stating no pyjamas allowed. My own opinion is they are just lazy.

Honest answer and I live in the small town, pyjama people only seem to come out on a Sunday, you dont see much of it during the week.

Yep, you'd see gals wearing pyjamas out and about every so often where I live (close to the centre of Cork) - meh, doesn't bother me. Bit manky if they're still wearing the same clothing in the evening as what they wore to bed the night before, but it doesn't affect me.

I live up the road from where part of that film/documentary/whatever was based. The pyjama brigade are alive and well and multiplying, from what I see every day. Very depressing.

I was on the DART about 2yrs ago, and 2 'chung wans' got on @ Connolly wearing pjs. I was traumatised!

I think in the citys where its a trend, the pyjama people may actually get up out of bed and put on clean pyjamas. Where I live its generally ones after sleeping in the pjs and the arse part is sagging and the eyeliner is down around the chin. Well thats my observation. Even if my house was in flames I have an escape outfit beside the bed so as not to be caught in my pjs.

I very much doubt that people who wear PJs all the time know very much about work

I often wondered why layabouts and scroungers are labeled as "working class". Its an insult to those of us who actually work - or want to work.

I didn't see this program but I assume that the girls in question spout the same old $hit i.e. society doesn't care about me so I don't care about society etc. Yeah, they only get free houses, free dole, free medical care etc etc.

No having a go at you, OP, just the general labeling of a large slice of our society.

There's a Pyjama Brigade where my friend lives. They congregate on the steps all day and chat and smoke and pretend to keep an eye on their bratty children. When the sun is out (rare enough) they just wear pyjama bottoms and vest top things and have a few beers on the road.

Other than that I see girls out in pyjamas in Dublin city centre all the time. The posher ones accompany their pyjama ensemble with a pair of Uggs. Personally I think it's kind of funny.
