Is this Kony 2012 campaign a scam?

    The vid is all over facebook but some of my friends say it is a scam.

    Somewhat. The issues are definitely real but the charity that made the film and trying to raise awareness are quite dodgy.

    Dunno if it's a scam as such. A good dose of bollocks yes, but a scam, not so sure.

    How is it a scam? I'm not trying to be a smart arse, I honestly would just like to know how it's a scam cos I've literally just reposted it on Facebook so if it's a scam I'm already being reeled in.

    My friend watched the first few seconds of it and turned it off. We were talking about it in college today and he was like "is that the thing about the big bang or space or something?" Haw.

    I just don't understand why people are so shocked about it. I thought everyone knew that this kinda thing goes on all the time in many African countries.

    Apparently the group (three founders mainly) behind it although a non profit group wont allow an independent audit of their finances. They are coming under scrutiny from all angles and getting very bad charity ratings from whoever rates the charity.

    They themselves admit only 32% of donations are used directly. The rest of the money they spend on their own travel (apparently 1 million last year) and making movie's (also 1 million apparently).

    Thing that strikes me as very iffy is that the bulk of donations are basically spent on funding the Ugandan army who themselves are no saints.

    Yes, I really don't think any real charity would give money to the Ugandan army, famous for raping and looting across the Central African Republic! Blog explaining how dodgy they are!

    Yup, sadly Kony is just one among many. I seriously have no idea what to do about Africa, education is the key but how can you get it out there with so many heavily armed militias run by astonishingly corrupt dictators all over the place. Its a miserable state of affairs.
