Maybe if I make a rhubarb and strawberry mix. Honey would work I imagine but it's a paleo questionable.

For brekkie I do the 'veggie hash' from everyday paleo - 2 sweet potatoes grated, 2 courgettes grated, 2 shallots diced, mix with 2 eggs and 1tbspn curry 1/2tbspn cinnamon and fry it on pan in coconut oil. I make it up, and store it in tupperware in fridge and does me a few days, great for brekkie with a poached/fried egg on top.

    That sounds great.

Crisis point. I'm sick to the grind teeth of eating eggs in the morning, what do I do now??

I like a nice caprese salad for breakfast. Prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, tomato, drizzle of extra virgin and a sprinkle of Italian herbs. Very nice indeed.

I bloody love buffalo mozzarella, must try that. Hard to get nice tomatoes though.

So the crumble was a success, apart from timing issue. It's in for another bit now as the rhubarb was a bit hard. So it's frozen rhubarb, frozen strawberries and fresh blueberries, 1tsp of proper vanilla extract. Put in pyrex dish and micro for 5+ mins
In a pot melt some coconut oil and then stir in a handful ish of ground almonds and dessicsted coconut. Pour mix on top of fruit and bake at c 180 till golden.

This could be nice for breakfast with Greek yogurt if you're not avoiding dairy.

I have re-introduced some sugar in the form of 85% chocolate, the Moser Roth little bar from aldi is good, cheap :), and 3.8g of sugar per bar.

I ahven't purchased the mag, will wait for the next visa billing period , lotwan , did you get it?

    +1 on the dark chocolate.

You are not going to see too many people falling off the wagon by taking some of the dark stuff

maybe we should rename this the kale thread? :D
Tesco have it in +50% extra free! and I just made a batch & I didn't burn it! not even a little bit - I did it at sub gas 1 (S on the cooker) for about 20 mins.

Last night for a treat I had my 85% chocolate smeared with hazlenut butter , very Ferrero Rocher like.

I had salad with buffalo mozarella for lunch- delish, anyone seen it cheaper than 2.99?

My bag of kale from Lidl was full of seed heads :( It was still yummy, just less. I am loving it in omelettes :)

    Lidl doing Kale now ?

    On the subject of Kale.....
For those of you who tried the Kale from the shop on Georges st, has the home made stuff been anything similar at all ?

    Thanks
    Rob

Completely different for me. The one at home was much nicer.

    Reading this with massive interest.

    Well done to all involved.

I am now a massive fan of mi fruit and veg and nutrition in general.

I snack on nuts, seeds and fruit.

I have almost cut all dairy from my diet (its a silent killer/bloater)

I have substituted butter for a non dairy spread. Coconut milk and rice milk.

    :)

    Hi!

Im also jumping on the bandwagon. Tomorrow is a full week on paleo+no dairy eating.

I have done low carb before, but I got sick of the same food and I was using way too much cheese with everything. I love that I can eat fruit now and use it in original ways to sweeten meals. (chicken with prunes).

I hope to be non-dairy for the whole month. I am not finding it hard, tbh. For "treats" I have dark choc after dinner and I made yesterday the yummiest banana bread :)

The only thing I dont "get" is the Kale chips. :o I made them twice, but there is some strong after taste I don't like. I much prefer courgette or green bean "chips" :D

Prunes = dried fruit (high in sugar)
    Bread = wheat (grains)
    Green beans = legumes.

Paleo fail tbh. Start again :D

I agree with the prunes. If you are going to cook with fruit, use fresh or (non dried) tinned.

Robb Wolf has a paleo banana bread recipe

Green beans are legumes but they are more shell than bean & their carb count is low. Mark Sisson, Whole9 & Robb Wolf all use them in recipes.

Eh, paleo is non dairy. AFAIK primal has dairy in it.

    Guys, thanks for the tips.

The bread had no wheat in it. It was made with almond flour.

Didnt know dried fruit was that bad, so Ill use only fresh from now on.

I suppose I shouldn't have said Im doing paleo, because Im not following anything to the letter, just cutting out wheat and added sugar, junk etc etc and now dairy.

That paleo banana bread is so feckin tasty! actually nicer than when I used to make it with flour! Prob a bit high on the carb side tho with 1 tbsp of honey and 2 bananas. But hey, at least its not the worst in the world.

Question on kale, is it your average run of the miill curly kale were talkin about here?

My new favourite thing to eat is rocket with shavings of parmesan! goes with everything and anything. Lovely with some chives and a bit of olive oil and white wine vinegar. That and a big aul chunk of striploin for dinner tonight! :D

Lidl has very cheap buffalo mozarella at the moment! 75c a 'ball' ;)

I'm going to be controversial and say that the prunes are perfectly fine when coupled with a protein.

Also baked goods with almond flour is not healthy, despite what other's might say. Almonds contain delicate fats not suited to high temperatures. Eat them raw but don't bake or cook them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,934 ✭✭✭Dotcomdolly

I'm pretty sure that is cows milk mozzarella el d. The buffalo is usually in a pot because it is so delicate. I'd love to be wrong though!

I having been having a snack of 6 prunes and same of macadamia nuts. So I'm in the pro prunes camp too :)
But I am keeping away from cakes muffins etc.

Thehamo , yes curly kale. My 5 year old said " oh kale crispies!! Can I have some?? Don't burn them mammy!!"

Nice to know the prunes are not evil. On the other hand, you just broke my heart about the almond flour... I love the stuff :(
