I'll certainly pay into it but I'd be very uncomfortable trusting others I don't know having access to my stuff, sorry to be a killjoy but there you go.
I just can't replace stuff collected over the years.
Now the idea of contributing to part of another exhibition is a good one, would consider bringing the MultiMega along to that, but a gig where any rough frakker can bollox up my Vectrex? Not likely!

That's kinda my thought. I'll have a think though, see what I could contribute, but NO SKANGERS TOUCHING MY DARIUS STUFF!

You have a MultiMega as well, fine machine. I got mine in The Rage believe it or not.
Anything fragile and rare would be looky looky but no touchy touchy as I said before. I wouldn't be happy with every joe spudhead getting their mits on some of my stuff either.

You'll be able to touch, but it will be subject to lengthy background checks.

"Oh... it says here you once grabbed a dog by the hind legs, and pushed him around like a vacuum cleaner. No Vectrex for you!"

What would be REALLY cool would be special guests at the Expo.

Now, in not talking just about SteveSI's two copies of Darius Alpha paraded around by Georgia Salpa in the nip. I'm on about prominent names from the past.

Though you are probably talking a few quid there for their fee. Any big Irish names you can think of perhaps?

Well, if it was presented professionally enough you are bound to get a spot on Moncrieff on Newstalk, I've been sending him messages for years about the need for, if not a videogame regular slot, then a decent story on videogames.
Also, on the plus side, not too many of the losers, pictured up above, listen to Newstalk as it uses bigger words than they are used to.

On an associated note, don't those scumbags look like the diametric opposition to hipsters? If we wanted to include emo's on the graph we'd have to introduce a z-axis...

One of the most iconic 80's action hero's right here! And my fee is not too bad.

In terms of the boyzzzz turning up. Just get a 360 and PS3 on the way in and have Call of Duty running on them, you could get someone whos very good to lay some ownage on them aswell if needs be....not me, I'm just really good, not very good

Good point actually, he's been canvassing for Ireland to build up its game industry for the last while. Would love to see Mr. O'Briain at this!

Just thinking, maybe it would be worth cooperating with some of the game events that already exist like the games fleadh or game craft? or even one of the game jams. you'd have the perfect crowd, the fact that its around games development means you're less likely to get undesirables and piggybacking on another show means less work really

I think it's an excellent idea!
Have you thought of fun presentations also, on the history or progression of gaming on a particular console or whatever?

To give people a good overview on how the games evolved and the likes.

If this was to grow and there was a demand for in depth demonstrations, the only unique thing I would have to offer is on the audio side of things, particular on the SID chip of the c64.

That would include playing the original chiptunes live on real SID hardware, and using some sort of loop machine or sequencer like the Kaoss Pad.
This is something I need to start putting up on youtube soon anyways.
Always thought it would be fun, to have an 8-bit band, one member on electronic drums playing 8-bit drums, and 2 people on keytars for bass and leads! :p

Would be cool for musicians to perform their own remixes live too, like bands, guitarists etc...

But no doubt you'll be concentrating on the gaming side of things for now.

Yes, No, Stupid Idea, I can help, You should do this, Why Dublin and not Cork?

Haha, why do you mention Cork in particular?
Do you see people often giving out about events that are on in Dublin but not in Cork? :p

Sure we all know cork is the real capital anyway! :pac:

Waveform lets book out the Cork Savoy for an event :)
Be an awesome venue used to be biggest acrade around after all a few years ago along with the biggest indoor slide in europe :)

You pay 5quid or whatever and then 90% of cabs inside were freeplay.
MadDog Mcgree, Cops, Turtles and SF2 stood out at the time :)

I was only in there once or twice as a child, must have been 10 years old at the most!

Once you got that white swipe card in your hand it was like a gamers wet dream!

Do you remember seeing the American Laser Disc games in there?

    They had Mag Dog McRee
and Space Pirates, I was absolutely amazed seeing those for the first time as a young fella! Felt like I was in a movie.

Edit: Just spotted the Mad Dog in your post

I have vague memories of Street Fighter 2 and the 2 slides in there also,
I think when you came out the end of one of the slides you would somersault into a load of plastic balls.

What age were you when it was open?

I've nothing particularly rare as I tend to only keep stuff I actually play but I'd be glad to help out or lend anything from my collection once its looked after

    Collection:

I'm sure I've more there, most them are not played too often unfortunately so no problem lending a hand once they are looked after

The G/F would love the Defender out of the apartment, I'd also love to touch up the artwork while it was out of the house :)

I think anything that's not rare we'll/I'll either be buying in(or taking from my X2 collection ;) or from donations ) and letting people play away on them. I don't think it's wise to accept loans from you guys here and then let the public use them.

If people have something that's interesting or rare and are willing to loan it then that can be put out of reach from the public on display(either hooked up and running or just for display depending on what it is).

Everyone here seems to have something that's either rare or cool that would definitely benefit the event(whatever kind of event it ends up being).

I've also been thinking about the whole raffle/prize thing and what kind of 1st prize might drum up some real interest.
It would have to be something pretty decent to be worthwhile.
An small arcade machine or bartop would be sweet and look good out on display, a candy would look a whole lot sweeter but then we get into some real costs.

    Ideas on 1st place prizes????

    I've a friend with a CNC who's made a few bartops/repo panels/etc for me.
We could get a project cab built very cheaply, something like the Weecade/coctail, could be a bit of craic like €1/game, highest score wins the cab
Just added somethin interesting to my collection above BTW

I'd say with a 20C or 50C mech quite a bit, €1 or €2 may put people off
I had just updated my post as you were quoting/posting:(

Yeah, I've the 20c mech in my candy now.
I used to have about 30 euro in 20c in the bin(for authenticity) but my girlfriend helped herself to a little bit here and there for bus fare and I have about 40c now :(

Would it be worth setting up a facebook page for this, or just adding each other on it?

Not sure if the A&R regulars keep in contact on there.

I set up a non-family and friends account recently dedicated to retro gaming and music,
I find there's less distractions that way, and helps to concentrate on those interests.
