Well i think i found one at the Italy match. I was sitting in block 525 row L seat 14 at the top of a staircase and for the whole match my view was destroyed with people going to the bar. Now i know they wont stop selling drink at the games because they are probably making a fortune but the IRFU should consider not selling tickets for seats in these locations as it completely ruins the game.

Heres a quick vid i took on my phone

Who said there were no bad seats at the Aviva? There are a lot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 72 ✭✭john.martin

Watched the Vid...that would Pi$$ me off!!!!

Convinced at the prices the IRFU are selling the tickets, the best seat in the house is the one in front of your own TV!!

Email or write to the IRFU and complain.

Did you pick the seat yourself?

Not really any way around it, in the brief seconds you can see the pich, its a fine seat any other time....

Have you considered being much taller perhaps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

there is probably a couple of thousand bad seats. i was there during construction and got to have a good wander around the upper tier, that truss cuts through a huge amount of the pitch as it dips down to the north stand. ranging from taking out the corner flag to running straight through your view of the goals.
it was much more elegant in the renders...
still at least that doesnt move, right pain OP and any seats that have obstructed views should be marked as such

Might just do that. No bought the tickets off the ulster branch but they still come from dublin.

should say that i have been lucky to be at a lot of irelands games and this is the first time i had a bad seat.

Fuck that, I'd walk out and go to the nearest pub and watch it before I'd deck one of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

Yeah now that would drive me around the bend. I'd have lasted all of 10 mins and I'd have said something to someone. And not in a nice way.

I remember going to the Argentina game in the 2010 AIs. Got someones 10 year ticket thing. And there were a couple of groups of people who just spent the entire game coming and going. Not as bad as that but I eventually let roar at one of them (in her bug fur coat). Can't understand why someone would pay money to go to a game and not watch it.

OP, was this just after half time?? (if so its to be expected but annoying)

or was it constantly like this throughout the game??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭vkid

that would drive me mad. Its a sad state of affairs after all the money spent on the place. Architecturally (internally) its a mess of a yoke. Those trusses are just awful and the small end looks ridiculous. Add to that the muppet on the PA, it just doesnt imake me want to go there.

The only positive I have is the seats/legroom is great.

Yea this was around the start of the 2nd half but it was like this the full match

Next time, stand on the seat to watch the game and then your answer ready for when they tell you to sit down.
Ridiculous to pay those sort of prices and to have to put up with that every few seconds.

I haven't been at the Aviva yet but I had heard of this being a potential problem from a mate who worked on the contruction of the stadium.

Was there nothing on the ticket to suggest that there was a curtailed view from your seat?

I remember having a ticket for a Champions League game at Anfield a few years ago, it was for the lower tier of the Anfield Road end but our seats were right up the back and when people stood up you couldn't see a thing even when you stood up yourself. But I remember the tickets saying 'Severely Restricted'. Didn't cop to what it meant until we got in to the seats.

Ruins your enjoyment of the match.

You should email ticketqueries@irishrugby.ie and let ticketing department know how you feel about this.

Honestly if everyone sat down and enjoyed the match instead of sneaking off for a fag every 5 mins then you might of had a crystal clean shot of the pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 747 ✭✭✭littleredspot

Jaysus, that would of driven me mad! Not the other people fault, but soooo annoying. I'd def be on looking for my money back.

In Goodison Park,Liverpool there's hundreds of seats with a restricted view. They have them marked as well and there's pound off the ticket price as well but could you be bothered sitting there with a big pole in your way.

i would think contacting the staff at the aviva itself would be better

what the f3ck is it with irish people going back and forth for drink/ciggy all the time...been to stadia abroad and its not half as bad

Ticketing etc has nothing to do with the Aviva.

I'd also disagree that its worse than anywhere else. Millennium, Twickenham, SFS, Lords, Lang Pk, Wembley, Murrayfield all just as bad, in various sports and comps too.

Now that.... I feel sorry for. Would drive me insane that! Never thought they did a good job on the stadium from day one, dunno why so many people think it's incredibly good, it's average.

And probably lose over half of the income from the bars throughout the stadium?

Is that Declan Kidney walking up the steps at about 35 secs?

An interesting problem! I agree that would have driven me crazy.

What makes it interesting though, is that you wouldn't flag this as a problem at the design stage. Imagine some guy going around each individual seat in the empty stadium, prior to opening, and giving each one a rating. He'd give that seat 100%!

On the other hand, you have the seats in the North Stand and the front of the lower tier of the South stand. I've been unfortunate enough to be seated there for a several games (both rugby and soccer), and the view is dreadful.

I see the Leinster branch are giving season ticket holders for next season the option to 'upgrade' their Aviva seats. Previously a lot of season ticket holders were being put into the North Stand, and I was actually considering not renewing for that reason alone. Obviously I wasn't the only one who felt this way and they took feedback on board.

I was really pro the new stadium when it first opened, and it's been managed well for the most part, but it's a real pity that we're stuck with so many dud seats pretty much forever.

That was the worst 57 seconds of my day.

    My sympathies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,363 ✭✭✭✭phog

That's pretty bad, probably the worst I've encountered in a big stadium. The North and South stands in the RDS are poor too if you're sitting in the first few rows up from the walkway, it's like a public footpath from start to finsih of the game but more so 10 mins from ko, either side of half-time and again before the final whistle.

I guess some people like their drink, cant hold it or both.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,308 ✭✭✭✭.ak

It's funny, I was sitting in pretty much a similar seat in Millennium for the H-Cup final.. and didn't have this problem.

...but that was probably because buying a pint in the millennium stadium is like getting blood from a stone. No one bothered.

They ran out of heineken before the heineken cup final started!

Poor show, I must say. It can be very annoying to be constantly disturbed like that.

Just give your feedback, it's all you can do. The front 2 rows or so, where a seat faces the steps directly, should be downgraded to restricted view. To be fair, even if you closed the bars, you'd still have disruption for 5-10 mins either side of halftime, along with after a penatly is taken and after an injury. I myself regularly leg it for a piss when a kickable penalty is awarded to the opposition.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,234 ✭✭✭totallegend

Dear god, that was awful. Presumably there is an equivalent seat in every block of the upper stand too? They should surely go down as 'restricted view' seats and be priced accordingly.

Were the significant majority of the people going in and out women?

They ran out of heineken before the heineken cup final started!

    Not they didn't:confused:

Have to say putting seats directky at the top of the walkway is terrible design. The issue isn't really people moving about its that if anyone in that section comes or goes they totally block the view of the person in that seat.

+1 on that. Figured that if we were going down in flames, I might as well have a few pints. And then when we turned it around, I was already in party mode. Result all round really.

Just going back to the thread title, was it suggested somewhere that were no bad seats in the house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,662 ✭✭✭RMD

I've been in the seats with the actual "restricted view" tag, the view was a hell of a lot better than that. Write a letter to the IRFU and let them know. Provide the link to the video.

  • Registered Users Posts: 177 ✭✭cp

Had the exact same experience in my first trip to the aviva (leinster v munster, magners league 2010) Incredibly frustrating, and there's little point loosing the rag at somebody as the next ten clowns arriving in 2 minutes later will be completely oblivious to it..

I remember there were a bunch of young lads who arrived in that day fully 15 mins late. They were also the first the make a dash for the bar five minutes before half time... I remember thinking, what in the hell was the point in coming at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭IngazZagni

I'm just confused at the op's thread title. I think it was well known that there would be bad seats in the Aviva even before the first match. They should probably list those seats as "limited view" as they do with certain seats and of course change them to cat 3 or something.
