Men who do Yoga

My Bikram yoga class used to have nearly a 50/50 mix of men & women. Of late though there seems to be way more ladies in it.

The man who introduced me to Bikram is always very enthusiastic about the amount of clothing on the ladies in the class......he kind of ruins my yoga buzz when I talk to him now - when I am talking about what a good class I had, he is nodding his head and thinking of the girl who bent over in front of him.

Ah well, we all practise yoga for different reasons! :D

It can be good for inner peace too, I think that was the original intent behind yoga, to switch off the repetitive thoughts so you enter a state of complete stillness in touch with your body and environment.

There is a Yoga forum under sports.
I myself love Bikram yoga and am a tall bearded man.

I think you might be right. My gay neighbour loves it anyway!
I've tried ashtangi yoga before and it is bloody hard, gave me a whole new respect for the levels of strength and fitness required.
In fact some of those serene looking middle aged ladies must be as strong as a fúcking horse!
    Bendy too:rolleyes:

Diving to work today I saw a sticker on the back window of the car in front of me saying “I love Bikram!” That’s that yoga thing that you do in a room at about 40º isn’t it I thought to myself. I knew it was either that or the name of some Indian dude so as I passed the car and stole a glance across at the driver of the car I expected to see a nubile, supple young lady capable of putting her legs behind her head. To my surprise (and disappointment) the driver turned out to be a tall bearded man.

Is my image of yoga classes misinformed then?

Has yoga become the realm of bearded, hairy backed man now? If so then Music videos and TV have a lot to answer for as it’s not all beautiful lycra clad ladies that do it!

So are there many of you men folk out there that participate in this particular fitness activity?

    If so why?

Also if you are a lady and you take yoga classes how do you feel about having men in your class?
Sounds like an excellent job :D

I did it before and enjoyed it. (Very expensive normally but most places give you a 2 week introductory rate for cheap). Was about 2/3 women if that's what you want to know.

I don't know lads with all that stretching I'm bound to let out an enormous fart. All their tolerance will fade away rapidly when they get a whiff of my arse biscuits.

Even "if" Yoga was for Gay people so what, does that mean straight people are not allowed, grow up.

Alot of people seem to have this opinion in Ireland but in reality Yoga is simply a great form of excercise that isn't offered in many other sports/activities.

It promotes correct breathing and flexibility which can be transfered to any sport.

Most serious sports teams incorporate some form of yoga to thier daily fitness routines

i would definitely recommend Yoga. Its relaxing and has helped me with my running. In the class i go to 2/3 are women. The only problem i have with it is there is no one my age. I am 17 and everyone else is at least 10 years older.

What about the farting? I'm told with all the bending it's not uncommon for everyone to be letting rip. Do any of the yoga people on this thread have any interesting farting stories/advice?

There is a hot yoga place up by where I live and I see lots of men coming and going.

Larger proportion of women but there is always one of two men in the class.

For you bearded men who do yoga, is it worth the exorbited prices for the class?

Could have just been his wife that put the sticker on the car?

In my regular glance through the window at the yoga class, about 10 blokes do be there and about 40 women.

Never noticed any beardy ones though. Also most blokes have their top off and from observation(not gay :pac:), most have waxed their chests.

most places do specials from time to time. Or 50 euro for the first month to try it out. There are about 4 places in Dublin so you could try a month in each ;)

The exercises in yoga were intended to prepare the body for the flowing of energies from the chakras, particularly kundalini energy, which could lead to enlightenment. If it wasn't done properly then the energy could rip up through the body and tear the organs (according to the gurus).

So from an occult point of view yoga sounds pretty bad ass.

I started a 30-day/90 min per session stint of yoga yesterday! I'm female and there were 8 men in a class of 25. I didn't pay any attention to them nor them to me ~ Each to their own. Also, us girls may arrive lycra-clad but the end result is sweat drenched and flushed but you feel amazing!

Don't know about other sports, but quite a few top level footballers and managers have been talking about yoga in recent years. Look at Ryan Giggs, the benefits of it are plain to see in his case. He's 38 and having a fantastic season.

Haha celebrities endorse exercises , doesnt mean they do them, Id say his evergreen persona is more down to the last 38 odd years of healthy living than a few months of yoga. Bikram yoga is just another one of these passing fads , exercise is exercise.
