Good news on Niallo taking over Foley's role, it was my one concern when I heard about Foley heading off with the Irish camp.

Interesting to see O'Donovan back on board. Was always strange he never got a look in as a forwards coach with another club somewhere after he left Ireland, prior to the RWC 2007 we'd a decent enough pack.

First squad session in 6 months today. Went well but I was about as sharp as a bag of wet mice

    Great news for him. :D

The 1/4s is about 40 days from now and he says himself he's well off par so I serioulsy doubt it, though he'd have two good tests in Connacht and Leinster leading up to it to check his match fitness.

Could happen if he gets a rabo game or 2 under his belt

Imagine launching Wally from the bench with the Munster behind with 20 to go in Thomond!

Only one NIQ there, and still not playing are Heaslip, SOB, Jennings, McLaughlin, Dom Ryan, Ruddock..

Talk about strength in depth.. Too bad we don't have this at Tighthead.

"...sharp as a bag of wet mice..."? Eddie O'Sullivan's crazy metaphors have clearly rubbed off on him :D

The man machine that is Stephen Ferris gives Ulster a massive edge in the backrow, imo. We could definitely do with some sort of Wallace back.

Wally's presence has really been missed for Ireland I think. SOB unfortunately isn't playing at the height of his powers.

Tbf, a player as good as Wallace will always be missed. It's hardly fair on SOB to compare them when SOB is just starting out.

Tis even more unfair on him to have him at 7 in my view, doesn't seem to be working so far. I'd put him at 8 for the Scotland game and let Heaslip have a rest.

Do you honestly think Wallace is going to be ready for the Scotland game?

Where did I say Wally should play? POM would come in at 7 for the Scots.

Maybe, it'd be good to see what SOB would be like at int level at 8.

It does but we've a long way to go yet. Anyone know how O'Hara is getting on this season with Con?

We saw that last year against Italy. He played well from what I remember. Well, well compared to rest of the team who were all over the shop...

Trying to remember that game, is that the one O'Gara rescued? Anyhow, it's something we shouldn't be adverse to trying out.

You mean the one where Ireland led 10-6 when Rog came one before giving up a try and ROG scored a drop goal

Yeh, the one where ROG dropped a goal to rescue Ireland from losing. Aint that what he said?

Nah I think its just the shine of Johne Murphy's head. :D

For all the stick he has gotten, that type of picture is McGahan's legacy. Local lads being the cornerstone of future success. (I know Keatley and Jones aren't local, but thats not my point)

Murray, Earls, Barnes, Zebo, O'Mahony, Sherry, Archer, O'Donnell, Butler, O'Dea.10 Munster lads he gave their first starts to, some further along the line the others, and all with decent futures.

    he was MOTM

but that was against Italy and in some posters view (depending on their argument) they're shiiite.

Peter Malone (Munster Elite Player Development Manager) talks about the academy.
Former Munster player Peter Malone has recently been appointed Munster Rugby Elite Player Development Manager and will oversee the strategies and long-term objectives of the elite player development pathway in Munster.

Limerick man Malone started his rugby career aged 13 at Bruff RFC and played his schools rugby with St. Munchin’s College.
Malone went on to play in the back row for Garryowen FC in 2001 to 2008 where he captained the side for two seasons and won the Munster Senior Cup, AIL Division 1 and All Ireland Cup in season 2006/2007.

Having earned his first cap with the Ireland U19’s at the World Cup in Wales in 1999, Malone went on to represent his country at Ireland Club and U21 level leading to a development contract with Munster Rugby from 2002 to 2004. In this time he played seven times for his province in the Celtic League.

In 2008 Malone went back to his roots and took up the position as player coach at Bruff RFC where he played a pivotal role in the club’s AIL promotion to Division 1B in 2010. Success continued into the next season when the club won the Munster Senior Cup and All Ireland Cup for the first time in their history.

Hard to know, it's worth remembering he's only played a handful of top level games. I thought he was exceptionally good in games v. the Saints, but then again, in one he was at 6 and the other he was at 7. He still has a bit of filling out to do yet anyhow.

I always heard he was supposed to be a natural 8 but he's had brilliant games at both 6 & 7. I think he has what it takes to be an excellent 7, maybe not a pure groundhog in the Pocock mould but his counter-rucking and stealing is very good, and he's an excellent ball-carrier too.

Might take another year for us to really see what his strongest position is. If DOC and Butler are going to come through at 6 & 8, I hope it's 7. Though I really think TOD could make it at a very high level even if he is a bit older.
