Canada employers to discuss plans for sourcing Irish construction workers

Potential 335000 jobs available in canada,provided you work/worked in constuction sector.Might suit alot of people,as we have tons of people out of work in that sector.As canada have cowboys,they probably won't want ours.
Even if it took 10000 off the dole,it would help us all.
Although if they all leave then tradesmen prices will hit the roof again. Remember how hard it was to get small jobs done ,at the height of the boom.

A delegation from Canada will be in Ireland this week scouting for
workers.

Senior Canadian government officials and representatives from two construction associations are visiting Dublin in a bid to try and fill job vacancies in construction and related sectors.

There are a projected 335,000 job opportunities coming up in British Columbia and Alberta between now and 2014, with the biggest demand relating to trades including carpenters, electricians and welders.

The Canadian delegation will hold talks with a number of bodies including the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Education and DIT while it is in Dublin this week.

It's still hard to get a good tradesman to do the small jobs

There are still no show tradesmen out there who won't even call you to say they are not coming though you took a half day from work to meet them :mad:

And then when you give out and complain they are shocked and turn it around like you are being the unreasonable one

That's great news. No doubt the government will claim this as part of their plans to cut unemployment...of course people having to emigrate will be a "lifestyle choice", not because we voted in another pack of munters.

I've actually wondered about this. I have some Irish coworkers in the IT field and they've made it sound like you tend to get the best and worst trying to emigrate. The worst, generally, aren't able to. Then the best leave for better economic conditions (higher pay, lower cost-of-living, and lower taxes) in another country.

I don't know how true that it; but it was an interesting perspective.

Yes The cycle of our best people leaving continues yet again, Fair play to anyone who gets work there but it just proves yet again we haven't a clue here in Ireland how to run a country, Hopefully another influx of immigrants into Ireland will fill the intelligence gap. Otherwise nothing will ever change here..
