They never were very good in the first place imo.

Irish music was in a terrible state what with bands writing their own songs and playing their dirty, grubby instruments. Then the Lord saved us by sending Louis Walsh to walk among us.

I think we do pretty well considering our population, how many good artists have come out of Belgium and they're over twice the size.

Good irish music exists and always has existed.

People are too lazy to get up off their arse and look for it

    Isn't Phil Lynott dead?

So is the other one, sadly.

    RIP to both.

Music in general, you mean. The world over. In these times

to quote a guy from 'The Bullitts' who was seemingly quoting me:

"Music used to be made by musicians"

"even songs from adverts of our youth were better than the charts today. It's in a terrible state"

"Only the crumbliest flakiest chocolate.. Tastes like chocolate never tasted before"

... retrospect, guys. massive archive accumulated but then it's oh, so last century.

Plenty of bands out there like windings, rest, and so i watch you from afar etc. Lots of underground bands that tour Ireland and abroad constantly and have proper studio albums. The issue is the tacky, bland Irish radio stations that ignore most domestic music.

I think there's currently a big push to reintroduce musicianship to music? in order to take it out of scangurz' hands who've been hellbent on destrying it for nigh on two decades now with their beatboxes, 'puters, dex rappin and riddims so expect less 'artists' and more misishuns, hopefully.. watch this place.

Yes they certainly are, there's no shortage of great bands/artists in Ireland at the moment.

    God Is An Astronaut
    Villagers
    Butterfly Explosion
    Bats
    Lisa Hannigan
    Redneck Manifesto
    Le Galaxie
    Halves
    Cathy Davey
    Altar Of Plagues
    We Cut Corners

To be honest I couldn't care less about Thin Lizzy or Rory Gallagher.

I'll side with just about anyone toting instruments in these times.. clichèd collegiate drips et al. how did it come to this :/

Even though from the north, I'd say And So I Watch You From Afar be included. Them and GIAA be the best IMO.

The only good bands from Ireland have come from north, Van morrison, undertones, stiff little fingers.

Here is a few decent ones though:

    James Vincent Mc Morrow

    Villagers

    Two door cinema club

Phil lynott is totally overrated, stupid lyrics passed off as 'poetry'

There are some pretty good Irish bands out there. They will never get anywhere because of the ****e X-factor culture of today....Pisses me off.

Check out Indiependence festival in Cork for some excellent homegrown bands!! Great weekend!!

Musicianship will always be rife amongst snooty collegiates with their 'good taste' producing neverending stream of average forgettable bands. I want it at street level again

Mentioned previously, but God is an Astronaut are genuinely fantastic musicians.

Didn't realise Butterfly Explosion were Irish, will have to pick up something by them.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Its hard for the general public to hear half the decent bands / acts anymore as no one buys their music and the charts are dominated by the usual tripe that has the massive promoters behind it. Also Irish radio does sweet f.a. to promote homegrown talent.

So i would say there is plenty if great current Irish music out there, just a little harder to find through lack of exposure.
