Astec 63DV questions

    Hi there,

    We have an Astec 63DV. Been working fine for years. We've extended the house & need to add additonal sensors/contacts. It's not really practical to run wires to the locations needed.

    Can anybody confirm if it is possible to configure the system to handle wire-free contacts/sensors? If so, what exactly is involved in doing this?

    Also, we don't currently have the system connected up to the landline (but would like to do so). I've heard/read conflicting information about connecting the 63DV to a UPC phone - are they compatible?

    Technically its possible using a stand alone receiver that will give you wired zone outputs to the panel.
    Something like the MCR308 on this page

    Remember you are adding this to an obsolete panel.

    Thanks KoolKid. I was aware Astec have been bought over & the 63DV is no longer in production, but I thought it was still a decent enough system?

    What other options would you suggest? We need to alarm a detached garage which is why I thought wire-free sensors/contacts would be the best option. Ideally I didn't want to replace the whole alarm system.

    Can you confirm the 63DV/UPC phone line compatibility?

    Its really wire it or the wireless reciever & devices. How many devices are you looking at using?

    Yes a 63DV will dial out over a UPC line.

    That's great info, thanks.

    Extra devices we'd requires are:
    2 windows & 1 door for garage
    4 windows & 1 door for house.

    We don't really have the option to run cabling to the garage. We could in theory run new cabling for the house door & windows, but it would be messy as we'd have wires running all over the place. It would be difficult to conceal the new cabling in the house.

    8 wireless devices & a reciever won't be cheap.

    You are limited to what you can do with this system as even to upgrade to a newer one would mean replacing all Astec sensors on the windows and doors.
    Cabling protected in mini trunken painted over can make a messy job look neat.
