I have quite a big problem at the moment in school.
My German teacher hasn't been to class in 2 months. And when she is in she doesn't teach ! she sits up the top of the room on her laptop and tells us shes had a hard day ?! For the time she's out,the class just goes to the study hall.
All the spanners in my class think its great time, but for me its not.I REALLY like German and want to do well.
I do as much as i can,at home and and in study like doing exam papers etc but i don't think its enough ? and at this point i'm seriously considering not doing German for my leaving cert, because the teacher I have at the moment is the only German teacher in the school :(
    Any feedback would help thanks..

Story of my life.. :/ Jokes :P Nawh but I had a teacher or two like this... and i'm sure plenty of other people do too... My advice would have to be try your best with German for until the JC... Grinds maybe?

Also, I'd go to your year head, class teacher, deputy principal or class teacher about this teacher, surely something must be done!!

Finally, I completely understand your worry about doing it for the Leaving.. Are you doing TY? If so, I recommend learning French NOW!! It's a lovely language and you'd easily get the Junior Cert course done if your doing TY and start the Leaving Cert French in 5th Year..
Or Even better if you'd be interested you can take Russian or Japanese for the Leaving .. These language are just taken in the Leaving Cert so you wouldn't have to catch up! :) But might be harder to learn if you have no one to help you.. whereas with French you may have a friend or teacher that could help you..

    Hope I Helped! :D

Don't let the teacher put you off - just learn German on your own if you really enjoy it! Watch German movies, listen to German music, download lots of German podcasts and listen to them all the time (like, 18 hours a day if you can). Make your way through the coursebook by yourself (10-15 mins a day will add up!).

There's billions of fun way to learn online too. You can learn random vocabulary using Memrise (which is slightly addicting and really helpful). The How To Learn Any Language forums also have a wealth of language learning tips from self-learners all over the world (they even have a specific area for German, which lists loads of different resources specifically for German).

You can also get the German past exam papers online (or buy them if you prefer) at examinations.ie - work your way through past papers to get a feel for what you'll need to know.

Lastly, have fun! It seems like you really don't want to give up German for Leaving Cert, so don't! A little bit of work on your own and you'll be flying.

    Best of luck :)

    Hi there haha
Grinds aren't really an option at the moment(no moniez) and about going to the year head? been there, no change ! he really didn't seem to care.German is completely overlooked as a subject, kinda upsetting really.
And no I'm not doing TY. for many reasons haha.Teachers couldn't care less about TYs in my school, they walk the halls aimlessly, they don't even do the core subjects.
I couldn't imagine learning french in 3 years ?well i could but i couldn't imagine doing HL and doing well haha. From what ive seen of it,the grammar/verbs look allot harder, but then again french might be my only option..

Sorry for all the negativity about what you recommended xD.
    Thanks for help :D

If you have an mp3 player, it's really not hard to fit it in. Just constantly have it on in the background and you'll subconsciously absorb a lot of the spoken language (makes listening comprehensions much easier!).

The idea of it comes from the website All Japanese All The Time, and even if you're not set on fluency right now a lot of his tips are very helpful. Plus, he's pretty funny :pac:.

Interesting concept :D I'll give it a try although my music will be sorely missed.

OP, would your parents not get involved and talk to the principal. Are there any other people in your class who feel the same? It's a disgrace that a teacher can get away with that sort of behaviour - people like that give the teaching profession a bad name.
