The keyboard on my wife's HP EasyNote if failing every time she restarts the laptop.

On restart, the keyboard works again. Next time she reboots, it fails again.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Could it be a serious motherboard problem?

Help!! (She'll want to start using my laptop) :p

it sounds like the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard has come loose.

google for a video on how to reconnect it properly for your laptop's model or take it to a repair shop.

My brothers work brand new ProBook does something similar.

I would suggest trying to remove the driver and put it back in again.
