transexuals seem to love being offended almost as much as hardcore christians and muslims
it's a pretty **** ad, but if it's banned i'll be vaguely depressed at the power of loud morons.

also transphobic is almost as retarded a term as islamophobic

    almost

I don't know if there's already a thread re this anywhere else. This happened again a few months ago, with No Nonsense car insurance (I think, it might have been another car insurance provider). I didn't think it was funny tbh, but I'm definitely not in favour of it being banned! Thoughts?

Didn't think the No Nonsense ad was offensive but this is offensive.

    "Transphobic".

I just can't keep up with all the bullsh!t nowadays.

It's not offensive to me, but I can see why it would offend them so I'll explain. For someone to call them a man would be offensive because even though they may have male genitalia, they consider themselves to be female but they're trapped in a man's body.

I don't think it should be banned though.

Of course it's offensive to transgendered people.
Who are the people working in marketing these days, I thought it would be obvious that if you make fun of any minority group there will be outcry.

But does that mean it should be banned? I mean, there are countless adverts mocking a lot of other things. To me, if you're saying that transgendered people are equal, then they are equally entitled to be mocked aswell.

Jesus christ it was a funny ad, they were poking fun at themselves in a way, "Sure we'll take a bet on anything"

Next it'll be offensive to smile in case you offend people with bad teeth. The weren't making fun of transgender people. End of.

Also - this "TRANSPHOBIC" bollocks is playing directly into the hands of Paddy Power, the same as their biblical ads - if the PP marketing team and Michael O'Leary joined forces i'd say boards.ie servers would melt.

So mocking people on a nationwide marketing campaign based on their faith or race is OK too?

Yeah but lots of things are offensive. I'm offended at that Sheilas Wheels advert. Can I get that banned? No! So why should this be different? It's not promoting hatred (which would be different), it's clearly taking the piss.

Honestly, who gives a fcuk what they think? Every week, some random 'group' no-one has ever heard of or gives two sh!ts about finds something to be offended at.

Tough boobies if they don't have a sense of humour. Those transgendered can go fcuk themselves.

    :pac:

That is a pretty disgusting attitude, they are people in the wrong bodies so with the miracle of modern medicine they can at least make their lives a little more comfortable.

Trans-gendered people are a group of people looking for respect and some kind of acceptance, if they regard this add as offensive then it is.

Us Irish as a whole, there is usually a national uproar when ever the British media slags us off, but it wasn't always like that, anti Irish jokes on the British media were so common it was routine. But we demanded respect and you seldom hear them now. As the TGs are now.

Try and live a day with a transgendered person and come back and tell us transphobia doesnt exist.
The ad is a load of bollocks.
Awaits the genius to come in with the 'well youre talking about it...clever marketing' derp.

I just think that it would have been obvious to Paddy Power that there would be some sort of controversy over this ad.
It's probably what they wanted to be honest.
I don't really get offended by anything so I'm not the right person to be saying whether it's right or wrong. All I know is that Paddy Powers service is ****e and I'll continue to use bet365 any day over them.

Power pointed out that several members of the transgendered community in the UK had participated in the making of the ad, and that it had also been cleared by the country’s television adverstising standards NGO, Clearclast, before being broadcast.

He explained that the ad was part of the bookmakers’ new We Hear You campaign – which aims to show more interaction with social media users. Although admitting that response to the ad had been “mixed”, Power said that it was intended to be “a bit of mild mannered fun”.

He rejected the suggestion that the ad mocked transgender women, saying it “depicted transgender women as beautiful” and was making the point that you “wouldn’t be able to tell the difference”.

not sure i get the fuss about it

Jesus, transexuals seem to be the easiest offended freaks shows in town.

Can you blame them for being offended, when people continue to display such hatred and prejudice against them in public?
What do you mean by "freaks shows?"
Come join us in the 21st century.

If I were transgender I might not be completely outraged by this ad, but I can see how I might be offended. The ad makes them out to be objects to be marvelled at and figured out by the men.
Not all transgender people would be offended, but I can see how some would.

But most importantly, it's not remotely funny.

As to people saying Paddy Power must be delighted with the publicity: are you serious?
How would they be happy with people saying the ad is offensive and not funny?
In advertising, all publicity is not good publicity.

This kinda reminds me of retarded policeman,

its an youtube comedy about well you can guess.

the amount of complaints that this has got is incredable so much so that the actor Josh perry (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1694675/) has come out and made another video having to explain that he is ok with it and fully supports it.

YOu say that these people want to be treated as equals well guess what sometimes that includes taking the piss. you can't wrap the person in bubblewrap all their life, piss taking is part and parcel of life.

If we are constanly saying "you can't say this or that about a group of people" then we are treating them as "special cases" (no insult meant btw) and thats not treating someone as equals

The responses here are fairly comical. Nobody is saying transgendered people don't have a hard time of it. We're saying they needn't decide to be offended by something so trivial, which is intended to be lighthearted and humorous. And they are deciding to be offended by it.

The makers of the ad stated that transgendered people participated in making the ad, so obviously not ALL transgendered people are bothered by it. What then qualifies this TENI group to speak on behalf of people who obviously think the complete opposite of what the TENI are complaining about?
