    Cheers for the answer!

I also presume it would only be the 120/250gb ones also, as opposed to the 160/320gb range?

I honestly couldn't tell you, I've no idea what bundles were out at the time of the 3.55 chageover. Are they hard to come by second hand as a matter of interest [on 3.55]?

They're available but at a premium that I'm not willing to pay (350ish was what I was quoted...). I can't find any reasonably priced.

My attempt at a dual kernel Slim Xbox 360, a switch will allow me to choose nands one is glitched the other is for Xbox Live access, I will update this thread as I progress so far I have extracted a nand from a ruined motherboard, bent the pins and sat it on top of the onboard nand I have tacked the outer pins so that the nand doesn't move.

You should take snaps along the way & make a new thread Ryan. Very interesting stuff

Will do, I just need to get some more parts a six pole on-on switch and a 10k smd resistor, the hard part is done (soldering the nand on top of the other)

why 6 pole switch? I thought you need only CE switch?

Went with the new Coolrunner method instead but was unsuccessful I was able to boot from either nand but for some reason I couldn't toggle them. I'm just going to cut my losses on this one as I'd rather have a working Slim RGH I might try it again when I have some spare time. Strangely enough the console now boots from the donor nand, so at least I know it was soldered on correctly.

Fawking JTAG, driving me crazy. Y u no boot Xell anymore? Y u no boot freeBOOT? Y u only boot stock? ...gah!

Your own console or a customer repair? Wiring issue, cold solder joint?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,582 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

Nah, this one's belong to a customer of witnessmenow.

It boots stock fine but won't boot anything else. I'm using the transistor method, checked the wiring and it's fine. He got Xell to boot at least once because I have the CPU Key. I've voltage checked the GPU Pin headers, it should be fine. I think I'm gonna have a go at the diode method to see if that works

Could it be a faulty transistor?

Replaced the transistors & resistors twice already :)

Very odd, you certainly get them don't ya :D

Modding the PS2 was immense fun, the soldering was so epic. They just don't make 'em like they used to :D

It's certainly not beginner stuff, how did you find it difficulty wise?

I did one in my life, never again. Quoted customer €20 I think, without even looking at diagrams - biggest mistake of my life

Yep I'd a similar experience & said I'd never bother again. You know TV though, anything to flex that soldering iron :D

    Loving that soldering :P

Way back when, I tried modding my PS1 Phat. I had a 30w iron with a chisel tip and no temperature regulator. I had no magnifying glass, no solder wick, no solder pump ..just the iron and some old lead solder. It ended with a busted board after trying in vain to unbridge several chip legs that became one after too much heat was applied.

While the PS2 was a success in that it wasn't bricked but it won't read the NTSC original I have so either the laser is bust (which I doubt since it'll read DVD videos though I need a PAL original to check for sure) or I've done something wrong even though I can access the chip's on-boot menu screen etc.

I didn't do it for a customer or anything. I did it to prove to myself I can handle more intricate soldering than the current generation of exploits, to improve on my pin-leg soldering, because I could, and most importantly - for fun :)

So I'm quite happy at the prospect of round two :P

The PS2 is an entirely different beast soldering wise to the PS1, fair dues. Strange it won't read NTSC originals, but will read dvd's. Some board revisions use more wires then others, did you use the max amount for that board?

And I did twice before that :/

I had lost faith in my Jtagging abality but if the king is having these issues... maybe im not so bad after all :)

maybe at this stage it is good idea to glitch the hell out of the xbox?

Jasper CB 6723, cannot be glitched.

would flashing original nand and running lets say 13604 update the CB to 6750?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,582 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

It's a big risk, I can't confirm that running a dashboard update will update the CB. At the minute there's a chance I might get the JTAG to work because the dash is lower than 8955, but if I update and it doesn't update the CB then I'm left with a console I can no longer JTAG for definite and can't glitch....

If I could confirm what CB I'll end up with if I updated to 13604 then happy days, I'd do that.

ive softmodded wii,s and psp,s..........today bought a black 360.....falcon i think........i know 360 modding is actually hard unlike wii/psp.......but i think i could flash it.....

only things im worried about is.......will it just plug into my laptop....(doubtful)......will i be able to power the drive with the xbox.....(from what i understand its not a good idea}.........is it easy to mess them up.......?...........

All in all i think i could do it....easily understand the method,....but worried ill need to buy tools to do it properly....and ive already spent too much on the console.

I see people will flash them for 30......seems a bit much......as far as i understand theres no costs involved and no soldering.....but i know people want to make money......just thought 20 would be fair and pull in more customers.

sorry for the rambling just dont know what to do with this right now

Unlike you, modders who offer the service have actually paid for tools & supplies & this is how they recoup costs while still making it worthwhile.

Like all of us here, there comes a time when you can't afford something. Wait another week or two & lay off something else, you'll soon make up the extra tenner.

no..i have the money lol....its more the issue of would it be better to buy the tools......or sell this xbox and get another to hav jtagged or glitched........trying to figure out what is best long term.

I just noticed ill need the flash updated periodically so its not just once off 30 euro.

I would also need to buy a dvd burner for my pc soon...as im not sure the stock one..is good enough....and other stuff

Your probably better off buying the bits & pieces needed, & doing it yourself. You'd be surprised how easy a lot of modding is, & how fun it is overcoming problems as you learn.
