    Name your best pc prank.

    I'll get this started :

on my mates parents pc i edited their host file :

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

which acts like a local DNS server

    I entered :

    www.google.ie - 192.168.1.1 ( this IP is fake for this purpose )

When his parents came back to the pc everytime they opened up google it re-directed them to a brazilian porno site.

Mate was mortified for ages coz his parents thought and probably still do think that he was looking up brazilian scat porn on their pc.

    Name your best PC prank

Screen shot of desktop saved as jpg.

Hide all desktop icons and move taskbar to top with autohide set. Set screen shot as wallpaper

Took a screenshot of a colleague's desktop, and set it as the background. Then deleted some of his desktop shortcuts.

Also, flipped the screen on my sister's laptop. She's not the most computer savvy, and couldn't turn it back for ages.

Once I balanced a mates computer on a door that was left slightly ajar.

When he open the door it fell down and split his head apart.

    He's dead!

Back in the Bebo days a friend of mine wanted a script that would spam everyone on his friends list.

I wrote one for him and he used it for spamming stupid **** but on the third time it spammed "I'm a massive faggot with no friends who needs to spam everybody".

It wouldn't work after the third time.

    Good times.

I was asked to look at a PC once wherein the CD tray opened every time the Tab key was pressed. Some wiseacre had created a hotkey shortcut. Funny though

I once convinced someone that there was a brigade made of PC's that roamed hither and yon, setting the world to rights.

Boy, that got out of hand.....

I went to hold open the door for my girlfriend, but at the last second I thought hey this is the 21st Century so I let her open it herself.

    So very PC

Could call it a prank or sabotage, but took a floppy disk apart and put a bunch of ground up match heads inside, glue the striking surface bit on the ring that holds the platter and then watch unsuspecting user's floppy drive go up in flames.

Back in the 90's when those evolving, rotating shape screensavers were popular I undid all the settings on mind until it was just a white square moving very slowly around. Then I told a work mate that I got it from a retro 80's screensaver site. He spent ages looking for it. I was mildly amused for several minutes.

I changed the boot-up chime on a housemates's Windows 7 laptop from the usual five second tinkle sound to the entire two-and-a-half minute Neighbours theme from the 80s. He wasn't impressed.

Friend A is a tech student, Friend B is a uni student. Friend A uses Friend B's login details to use the uni computer labs. I am at the back of the lab and she is at the front. I use the netsend command to send her a big officially worded popup message along the lines of:

"It has been brought to our attention Friend B, that you have given your login details to non University of Ulster students. This is against our code of conduct which you signed when enrolling and as such your academic grades have been reset to zero. Your status as an active student has been rescinded. By clicking OK you accept this official reprimand and do not wish to appeal.

    Yours, UU Tech Dept"

Now on the netsend you have to click ok so she had no choice. She then logs off the computer gets up and all but sprints out the door

    :D

A little of topic....... Does anyone remember sourpatch.org?? It was a hyperlink one would send someone and when opened it would have a short clip of something gross. It kept moving about the screen. Everytime you tried to x it it would move. Only way to fix it was to force shut down the computer.

Dies anyone know of any similar links/sites as really wanna get back at my friend for killing my laptop!!

    Cheers!!

Hide everything on the desktop bar the icon for 'My Computer', and rename it to "My Computer 46"
Create a batch file, call it My Computer
inside, just a single word - 'logoff'
change icon for the batch to that of a normal My Computer
now copy this fake My Computer over and over again, to fill the desktop..

Can do other stupid things too with scheduled tasks and powershell scripts. Eject the cdrom every 20 mins for example :P

When I was a student in UK, my housemate used to send emails to the rest of the house about variously stupid stuff, like someone had a left a plate on the table, a cup was on the living room floor, etc, etc, etc. Got to the stage where I was getting 4/5 a day.

So he left on his laptop one morning as he talked to 'pops' on the phone and I installed my wireless mouse. I told my other housemate and we sat next to him in the living room, 'using my laptop', for about an hour watching his brow furrow.

He started saying he'd had the laptop fixed recently and thought somebody might be hacking his computer for his 'data', as he had (not) seen on Crimewatch. He even asked would the neighbours be able to hack in. Housemate told him he thought they might, he should go check the lights on the router, as he'd heard that if they were flashing it meant there was 'unauthorised access on the network' and that was the security warning. We lived with 5 people and I told one of the girls when she got home. She played along aswell and said same thing had happened her. What does dip**** do? Doesn't google it to see if any of this is even remotely plausible, calls into the guy next door, who was in his late 40s, a regular Tennants drinker, and hadn't ever even been on a computer, let alone hacked anything, and asks has he been stealing internet. Cue getting the door banging in his face after being told to f*** off and being called a stupid ****.

The emails never stopped so I used to just reply with screaming porn links.

I told him pissed one night at the end of the year and he thought it was 'well uncool mate'. I half heartedly apologised as I laughed. On reflection I should have remotely accessed his laptop and started really freaking him out by typing messages for him on Notepad or something. But that's a bit too far I suppose.....

Sounds like a bit of a douche, You should have done the head split open by falling computer gag!

In Carlow IT about 10 years back, folks used to brazenly looks up porn on the library PCs and in labs. Got a couple of classic pranks pulled as a result. One of the seniors in compsoc showed us an exploit to send novell net send messages as the Computer Services Dept.

One day seeing a lad looking up porn in the library, we sent him a popup message with the following...

"You have been detected viewing offensive or indecent content on your account, your computer access privileges will be suspended for the next 2 weeks. please report to the Computing Services Dept. office with your student card."

As he got the message, he was stunned for a second, before logging off, picking up his bag and jacket and going to the Admins office with his student card in hand, ready to confess his indiscretion.

    _______________________________________________

Soon after were were in a spare lab (about half full as the library was packed), and again, there was another lad in the front row lookin up porn. I was with a friend and said to him, check this out... i walked up to the row behind him and stood up on the desk...

...then manually turned on the overhead data projector on the celing. the guy was using the PC that lecturers use to demo code to the lab! had he bothered to look up past his screen, he would have seen a giant image of his live screen on the wall 2m in front of him. he never looked up though, the whole room was howling laughing tho. :D:D:D

    good times.

I used to install teamviewer remote access software on Library computers in UL then me and a friend would take a comp within watching distance and start sending rude messages to their friends after they had logged on to facebook.

They were in disbelief that words were typing themselves.

Yea we had planned a class one where we would just repeat back stuff he'd said around the house and comment on his clothes/food to show the house was bugged. We were going to start making him go around the house looking for them! But we thought he'd never believe it, or worse call the cops and we'd get done for wasting police time!

He started getting on peoples nerves with the emails and racist comments against a local guy, so we used to wind him up a fair bit, and he did not get the humour. He freaked out once when my housemate said his mam rang, which she actually did, and left a message that his car had been stolen by chavs and sold to the Irish gypsies for scrap, which she didn't! Anybody else would laugh and brush it off as messing. But he rang her straight away and when he realised he was messing and the car was fine, he started freaking out . He was a ****** eejit like. Needless to say he doesn't stay in touch.
