kWh per square metre

I am doing a spread sheet of cost comparisons for various heat demands for a commercial build. I am slighty confused how to calculate the above. I am doing a spread sheet of cost comparisons for various heat demands for a commercial build. I am slighty confused how to calculate the above.

Example

6000 sq metres
Gas bill of £50,000
Gas company state 1kW = 0.04 (not sure whether the unit is £'s or pence, I think it is £'s)

50,000 / £0.04 = 1,250,000 kW per year of energy to heat the 6000 sq metres.

How will I calculate the kWh

Do I use the specific amount of time the heating system is running or do I presume the heating system is running 24/7 when calculating kWh

You already have the KWh. The energy companies bill per KWh not per KW.
A KW is a rate of energy usage, not a amount of energy used.
