Who handles the payment when you buy from third party seller on Amazon?

Say you want to buy a pair of Runners from a Third Party seller called "Trainers", does Amazon process the payment and give the funds to Trainers or.....how does it work?

AFAIK Amazon process the transaction and credit the marketplace seller.
