I've heard that Dr Hook's song is about paranoia.

But it can be taken as harsh realities of life. Especially with lines like "when you are in love with a beautiful woman, you watch her friends!" - I mean, a beautiful woman will always have loads of male 'friends' (aka, them waiting for their chance to get with her, even if she has a boyfriend)

I'd say never marry/commit on the basis of looks alone, although I know it is a big factor for most of us lads.

If I met a genuine loyal loving companion and she happened to be hot I wouldn't hold it against her!
