Most romantic is putting her head under the covers to smell my Dutch Oven

Gawd, Valentines day, it usually takes me a week to read all my cards.

On Valentine's Day if you're in a long-term, serious relationship it's a good opportunity to get down on one knee. However If you're in a new, fun exciting relationship chances are you'll end up on both knees.

I remember walking down the street one Valentine's evening with my gf of the time. We passed this restaurant and she remarked on how lovely the food smelt. Romantic old fool that I was, I turned her around and I walked her past it again.

I told her she could make herself a sammich if she wanted. Only after she made mine though.

I give it some new lotion to put on it's skin or else it gets the hose again.

Feeling all romantic, I might use hot water.

Valentine' is a load of sh!te!

But, had been going out with a guy for three months and come Valentine's Day it was our 3 month anniversary. He got me three red roses - one for each month we had been together.

Haven't thought about that or him in a very long time. Doesn't really sound like much, but I thought it was sweet and now I can look back fondly on it :)

Every fecking time i try something romanic it ALWAYS backfires,

was on tory island last year with her for her sisters birthday just before valentines, kept saying i had to go back early on sunday to mainland (was using rugby as an excuse) but it went on and on and we didn't leave the pub till 5, my phone was screwed at the time so used hers to set alarm and told her i was heading on 9 boat anyway.

She woke up and turned it off while i was asleep so missed boat. trying to get off island as i had lots to organise for that night, (pick up her flowers, present get haircut etc etc) waiting in the house before next boat and get a phone call. As i said my phone was screwed so the only way to talk was loudspeaker. put on loudspeaker surrounded by everyone in the house.

It was the florest asking was i gonna be in to pick up the blue roses i ordered (not as fancy as it sounds turned out they just sprayed them blue but anyway) so that was surprise one wasted.

eventually got out and had an hour to get eveything sorted, she said she had to go up town too so she said she'd walk up while i got flowers. so had to nic ely tell her to F off as i had to pick up other present for her, surprise 2 ruined.

Then there was the arguement about why i never take time off near end of the year. over and over again oh you never take a long weekend where we could go home. eventually i had to explain that the reason i hadn't taken the last of my holidays is that i had been trying to organise a holiday for us in March and was using holidays i was carrying over (surprise 3 ruined)

i know there was more cause at this stage she even jokes saying that she ruins everything

but still i try and be all good and spontanious and surprise her as much as i can and it never works.

Oh and then there was the time she bought herself the same thing i bought her for christmas after she had hinted that she had wanted it the week before.

Or the same christmas i bought her a pair of cons she had been hinting at and so i buried it into the middle of her bag under all the others. Her mild OCD kicked in and she went to repack the bag and noticed the extra present. sigh

Although there was that one time i sent her on a treasure hunt around town with money and a note to next one in loads of shops around town so she had to go around all her favourite shops which was nice

Best thing is to celebrate Valetine's day on November 22nd year, that'll surprise her.

Load of crap. The florist/restaraunt/jewellers are the only winners.

We talking exclusively Valentines Day? If so, then nothing as it's just another day. There are 365 days when a person can be romantic, if this is the only day that someone puts in a bit of effort then it's not much of a relationship.

I think the most romantic was when she was studying abroad and phoned me on a Thursday evening being very homesick and really upset, so I rang up the local airline and purchased a flight home for her the next morning, she was so happy.

There is no word in the Irish language for violet.

    True story.

I'm not a big believer in love and all that smoochy stuff, but I really enjoy Valentine's day.

It's a day that celebrates human relationships. Even if I'm not dating anyone I usually do something with some friends, or send a card to my Mum, or call my sisters, because there is a non-romantic element to it as well that is just about sending someone affection.

I think it's a shame that people sometimes feel such animosity towards it. You don't have to be in a relationship to be affectionate on this day.

Couple years ago done the whole dressing up nice, taking her for a nice meal thingy. Was nice I gotta say.

Last year I decided to actually get the girl I was seeing things she actually wanted and needed. Tbh I prefered that cause the reaction was more entertaining & genuine surprise.
Oh and I got her one of these but thats just cause hes awesome :pac:

There are no words for 'modern', 'cocktail' or 'cosmopolitan' either.
