Gatso Van Flashed me - honestly wasn't speeding!

    Hi Guys,

Strange one here - driving down Griffith Ave (single lane traffic) and there was a Gatso Van (white with standard 'Garda' markings, so I think it's one of the older Garda operated ones). Seen it from a good distance away, but I wasn't over the limit in any event - it's a 50klm area.

Now, as I approached the Gatso Van, now well under the limit at this point just to be safe, the big light on the back window flashed me! There was a guy behind me that was going mad to get around me, but he must have been doing the same speed as me, albeit right up my backside. Just before it flashed, a car coming from the oppisite direction drove by, from what looked to be over the speed limit I'd say.

Could the flash have been set off by the guy coming from the oppisite direction? Now I'm worried I've been done for NOT speeding!

    What's do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure that more than one vehicle in the pic = no ticket.

Hi Anan, thanks for the reply.

I know what you mean, but I'm just worried because the guy behind me must surely have been doing the same speed as me, as I was in front of him and he was a foot from my rear bumper

I also thought those older vans didn't monitor the traffic coming from the oppisite direction, only the side they're parked up on.

    Maybe they do both sides?

The Flash at 18 seconds into the video attached, does this mean the person in question was caught for speeding??

Could have been for a car travelling in the opposite direction.

That's a GoSafe van, they use IR which is invisible to the naked eye and car cameras. The "flash" looks more like the reflection of your car lights on the glass pane of the infra-red flash unit.
