Boiler Filling Loop Not Working (I think)

Noticed this evening that my rads aren't heating when the boiler is on. Took a look & sure enough, the pressure gauge is low...heading for 0.5 bar. Haven't had to top it up in ages. Tried opening the filling loop valve in the hot press. Usually have to open it a bit & then can clearly hear the water flowing in & see the pressure rising. Not this time - opened the valve tap as far as it would go, but no noise & no change in pressure. Tried shaking it about a bit - still nothing. Does this mean that it's a job for a plumber? Or does anyone have any suggestions. I'm not really Mrs. DIY, but I could do without paying a plumber call out if there's a relatively easy fix.

Haven't had to top it up in ages

some loops have 2 valves

Just using that one valve always worked before though. If there was second valve, any idea where it would likely be?

Just making the point as its been a while since you toped it up.

Gud sharp slap on the valve then a call to your local engineer.

I have seen siuations where a pressure reducing valve was also fitted. However that valve was closed.

Have you got one of these fitted beside the filler loop?

The plastic head (like the ones on your rad valve) are worn and not turning correctly.

billybunting is correct. The valve could have a hexagon head and a radiator type plastic head/ball valve and both need to be open.
