O'Gara is from San Diago, is he American grown?

Paul Doran Jones is from Co.Meath, went to Trinity, played for Saxons against Ireland, is he home grown?

Kyran Bracken is from Dublin, played for England is he home grown?

Being born in a stable does not make one a horse.

Just to clarify the Denis Hurley stuff; he was born in West Cork, spent a few years of his early childhood growing up in the US, then his family relocated to Kells, Co. Meath. I'm pretty sure he attended Castleknock College in Dublin for a period. Finished his schooling though in Munchins, and went to UCC.

He has pretty stout Munster roots though; his dad was on arguably the most famous ever Munster squad; the team v the All Blacks in 1978.

Edit-Apologies, hadn't seen the mod comment above this before posting, just wanted to clear up some of the stuff though around his background.

    Hopefully it's just rumour.

    A backline of

Murray, ROG, Earls, Downey, Mafi/Laulala, Bowe, Jones would do serious damage next season.

With players like Zebo, Keatley, Hanrahan, Hurley, Murphy in back-up we'd suddenly be looking an awful lot stronger.

I don't know tho if the current backs coach is good enough to get the best out of these guys. The jury is still out for me on Downey also. He is fairly limited imo. I guess if he just crashes ball up the middle and is defensively ok thats what Munster want but I would have liked a player with a bit more about them.

On the possible Bowe transfer, would the tax break be available to him if he signed for Ulster? Surely would be if the IRFU are payig his wages. Was hoping the tax break might help swing it.

I've seen the edit and hope this will be permitted, Doran Jones is from an Enfield outside London, went to school in England and moved to Trinity under a cloud, so to speak. He has Irish parents though.

The tax break won't be available to him in Ulster. I don't THINK it will be enough to swing for you though.

Hmm, Hanrahan, a 12 who can pass. He looked good tonight, wonder will he start to get Pro12 time soon. He's still a bit off the pace physically I think, though he took a lot of punishment well tonight.

We need him to get some game time sooner rather than later. Throw him into a pro 12 game to see how he goes, he's done well in any A game ive seen him play. Lets see how he does, he's in his 2nd season of the academy this season and depending on how he does give him more regular gametime next season

Ya he looked good tonight, great break for the try and he generally looked good going forward. Still needs to develop physically but he's looking promising!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,976 ✭✭✭profitius

Yup not the finished article yet. 10 could/is probably his best position I think, depending on his kicking. He was good tonight when he got the ball and like Madigan has a pass that can open up defenses. Munster need someone like that. Hes a completely different type of player to Downey and that gives Munster options.

Kind of on that note it would be nice to see a couple of players in the backline who can take on the responsability of kicking ala Leinster. It's something that is probably missed with warrick gone. No reason why it can't be encouraged in up and coming players so down the line it would be easier on players coming into the team like Madigan at Leinster.

Murray is decent enough place kicker. Scored the first points in the revamped Thomond Park playing at 10 for the u20s against Ulster.

He took some punishment yesterday, is he really ready for senior level rugby? Just cause Munster need a 12 doesn't mean we should rush him through.

    Doesn't it?

Not if he's not physically ready, he'll pick up injuries and damage his overall game. Those passes in the first half are up there with any other professional centre in Ireland but it doesn't matter if he's not ready, imo.

agreed conway got a chunk of game time last year for Leinster and regularly got injured very easily imo, not physically ready I don't want to see the same happen with Hanrahan

Well if he's not physically ready then fair enough.

I didn't see the game so I can't really comment. But I think Munster should prioritise his development. The first step to that is obviously getting him physically prepared before anything else.

There's just no way of knowing I guess, but I'd always lean towards the "better safe than sorry" side of things. Some people want to play young guys just because they are young, from what I can see.

Did many of the injuries actually happen in games though?
