Myself and a friend have a theory of that if you do see a woman driving a Mini Cooper or Fiat 500, chances are, 9/10 times, it's a hot chick.

Having said that, the fiat 500 looks to be quite the nippy little yoke, I'd like one! :D

I'd love a Fiat 500. Would absolutely love one. But not such a rural car...:(

Someone here mentioned a Golf GTI? Unless its an oldie, then its less manly, more man-boobs. A flabby brand exercise.

    Indeed!

I asked one of my lady friends about this, and what she'd consider "a ladies car". It turns out, unless it's a fire breathing 60's mustang, pretty much everything is!
I showed her some fto's...and she dismissed them straight off as being really girly...and i'm not even joking!

Would tend to agree with this. Its about extremes. A Nissan Figaro, yes its delicate. A Chrysler 300CC, like a Mustang, its in your face male. Plus if I really have to call it, Jags. I'm not sure about the latest jags but VERY FEW WOMEN I've encountered have ever got excited by Jags. They're (or were) in your face British muscle. Me, I love them. We had a 3.4S when I was WAY too young to understand. I thought every car was like a cockpit. Next up was a loveable & gutsy, but plain Jane, Beetle. And another.....

I wouldn't say roundness makes a car girly. Some of the "manliest" cars I know are composed of nothing but curves. And the curves are not just muscular but also feminine. Its the right application and proportions which gives a car that slightly aggressive and masculine look.

50-60s Jags are best example of this:

    Honorable mentions:

Hard a find a good modern example though... I think its because modern cars seem to lack that "rawness" these cars have... Maybe too much carbon fiber and electronics...

They're all girly except the last one!

    Unfortunately, I'd agree with her!

^You've got to be kidding to consider a Jag D type or a Ferrari 250tr to be a girls car.

I think you're confusing feminine design elements in a car's styling with a gender preference of a car.

I'll put it to you this way:

Ask a man to imagine a vibrator. He'll describe it as long, hard, veiny, ugly, similar in every way to a natural mickey except it looks like a mickey on steroids.

Ask a woman, she'll describe it like one of those cars above.

^ i think the only people who buy a Micra are the ones who can't afford anything better or the ones who don't care about cars and just want some car to get around in.
Nothing to do with it being manly car or a girls car...

^pic of pickup truck as 'manly car'

You would be amazed how many women drive trucks around here, and not just 'dainty' compacts like my V8 Dodge Dakota (considered a 'small' truck despite being 18ft long) - I see women here driving Ford F150's and Ram 2500s.

    Aw so cute...

Amber Heard, in Drive Angry, in a Charger:D. Film was terrible but I didn't care.

I would hazzard a guess and say my car is slightly manly, but it's kinda quirky so it would suit either sex, it's just cool :cool::cool::P:P:P

Well 2 things really, it looks 'cute' and it's a convertible.

    Nice car though.

Ah the old Top Gear question.

Do you get the Subaru or the Evo?
You have to get the Subaru because which one would you like your girlfriend to be driving? Evo of course! :D

I'm a straight bloke. Last night I bought myself a cheap but reliable Colt. If anyone has a problem with that, I'll burst ya................with me ghd :D

I guess you are even more manly if you don't know what a ghd is. Damn it.

I know this thread is always popping up but this time its more interesting/relevant to me. Wrote my old car off a couple of weeks ago and for some reason I'm taking a shine to the Ford Puma, (1.7 Zetec), The front of it falls between both categories. But the back of it just reminds me of J'Lo for some reason. Im a man by the way.

R34 Skyline is a mans car. A girl in it while at first glance may look sexy, really just looks like she's borrowing his car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 450 ✭✭TheZ

I think general public perception would be

    Girly

    - Mini/Mini cooper
    - Convertible Golf
    - Ford Ka
    - ford Puma (I had one but in hindsight was girly but a great car)
    - any small convertible or coupe

    Manly

    - Rep mobiles - Mondeo, Passat, Octavia, Insignia

If a man drives a small car then unless it is the "fast" model and looks like it then it can be perceived as girly

Likewise any convertible - can get away with Audi, BMW or Merc convertibles but it is borderline unless you are a range up from entry range or what used to be (3 series, A4 etc)

If it's not a D-segment saloon, or the 'fast version', then you are a little girl.

Wans in their bf's skanger mobile are not attractive.

Once had a 1984 Merc that I regrettably crashed and I needed a cheap car and fast.
Came across a '88 Colt (the old, boxy one) and bought it.
It was an absolute hoot, I loved it. Didn't see anything girly about it.
