What are the flash fiction rules?

This will be a VOAT, with a full version number this time. For those who didn't participate in or follow the 3.5th edition of VOAT, have a quick read of this as the format will be roughly the same.

You'll theoretically be able to enter at any stage up to 61 minutes before closing time but it makes things a little easier if we have a rough idea beforehand of how many people are likely to be in on it.

Assuming the day suits me, I'm in.

Dates... if anyone has preferences, post them up. Obviously everyone will be free on the 14th :pac:

    Ouch. :pac:

    No preference for me.

It's probably more manageable if you choose a date that suits you (since you need to be around to accept PMs and track times) and ask who is available for that date.

I'm on if the date suits. Most dates do though, whatever suits you.

I'm up for it, assuming it's not on the 14th! :D

13th, 16th, 20th are all good for me.

16th works for me (the evening I think)

All 3 dates good for me (at the moment anyway!) :)

Evenings always best for me after the child has gone to bed, so 9pm onwards by the time I can sit down to it. All the dates seem OK

I admire your ability to write at that hour. The last thing I want to do after making up stories for the kids' bedtime is making up stories for big people.

I really want to take part in a short story contest here but I don't think I'd be suited to Flash Fiction, especially with the one hour time constraint. But then again, I will try anything once, so count me in.

Oh and yeah the 16th would probably suit me best. The only day I can't do it is a Tuesday, too many commitments on a Tuesday.

I won't lie, can't be definite about being around, but would probably go for the 13th or 20th, as Monday is usually easier than Thursdays (the deadlines are almost always further away... :D).

Either way, whatever date is chosen I'll try to make it. Last year was fun, and I'll probably be late in the evening too, brain kicks in around 10 or 11pm. (3am would actually be best, but not on a "school" night.)

    Thanks Picka!!

Oh that's a great idea. Can I join? I won't lie but I'm only starting out so it prob won't be great. Is that okay?

Hey, that makes (at least) two of us!

Me too. Although I'm thinking that this sort of thing might be too much of a challenge for my first writing attempt.

I'm willing to have a go, despite not picking up any votes for version 3 in the photo competition. At least I can't do any worse!

Thanks to all those who took the time to read the piece and make comments. The feedback was all valid and I do plan someday to revisit it and try to get a story that the characters fit into.

So how does the 16th suit people?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,755 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Should be OK for me. I'll know more next week....

I'll have a go at the flalsh fiction for the fun of it if that is okay? I'm thinking around 8pm would suit me.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 17,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭Das Kitty

Count me in for around nine-ish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,183 ✭✭✭Antilles

Any time after 7pm works for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭echo beach

I will be free from around 9.30pm

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 36,284 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

As with the last time out we'll be counting on those that finish early to pass on the message at the appointed time to the later starters. It's too tight for someone who starts at 8pm to PM someone in time to start at 9pm so if you can more or less guarantee that you'll be able to forward the outline to someone who starts >1 hour after you, stick your hand up. So far most people are looking at starting in the evening, which is tricky for me but if anyone is going to write during the day and can start pinging PMs around 7PM that would be ideal.

So the finished piece gets PM'd to you regardless of who sent on the outline?

Should the person sending the outline CC you on the PM so you can track it?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 36,284 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Oh yeah, all pieces get PMed to me directly. There's no real need to CC me on the outline PM but it's no harm either. I have to remember how we did the thread update last time!

Should you not get a CC when the users get sent the outline to make sure that only an hour passes before they submit the entry?

Also: hopefully the site doesn't crash like last time! :D
