Warped chassis as a result of accident

Hi, I know absolutely nothing about cars but I'm asking for come advice after I had my very first accident today. I rearended someone who decided to brake when they were halfway out on the road and I had assumed that they were gona keep going. My fault completely...

My question is about a dent that appeared in the side of the other drivers car as a result. The lad said that the chassis is probably warped and the car is probably a write off. I was wondering if this sounds legit (cos I never heard of it) and will it mean that the car is definately a write off? Im really worried cos as I know the lad we decided not to claim off the insurance so I will be footing the bill....

Could be a write off, depends on how hard you hit it. If the quarter panel is creased it could well be a write off.

It slightly warped above the back wheel... cant see it but can definately feel it. The bumper has also been pushed in and up.

unlikely, just the wing itself warped by the bumper

The car being a write off or not depends on the value of the car. A creased quarter panel is not a warped chassis but can be expensive to repair properly so if its a low value car might not be worth it.

You'd also have to hit someone a lot harder then a minor junction bump to crease the quarter panel.

I was approaching a junction and preparing to stop bt was probably going at most 10km/hr.

The car is very old so looks like either way I'll be paying the value of the car... Thanks for all the advice
