People flashing on motorways

I don't do a huge amount of motorway driving so I don't know how common this is but a couple of cars have done this to me on different occassions. I'm not one of these people that weaves in and out or speeds and I only feel the need to overtake if someone is hogging a lane. I would go into the right hand lane to overtake a car that was going under the speed limit. When I go back into the left lane, indicating and making sure that I am quite a bit ahead of them they start flashing. I can't understand why. At first I thought that my boot was opening itself or something but no.

If it only happens on the motorway, you're using it wrong by the sounds of things.

This isn't as regular an occurrence as I think I made it sound like in my OP. It happened twice but I can't figure out why. The first time I was in an Auris, the second time a Mondeo. It's only ever happened during the day and not in heavy traffic. Lights weren't on.

I can't see what I'm doing wrong but I could easily be one of the many Irish drivers that hasn't a clue how to drive on the motorway? Good driving conditions, car in my lane doing approx 70-80kph, I indicate, go into right hand lane, wait until I am a good distance ahead of the car I am overtaking, indicate left and go back into the left lane.

On a motorway? Ive seen people drive really slow on a motorway, but thats a bit extreme.

What speed do you do when you're overtaking? If you're doing 30-40kph below the limit in the overtaking lane, even if you are still overtaking, you're gonna pee off a lot of people.

Mabey you are taking too long to pull back in? And the driver behind gets a bit impatient.

The way I read it was that the driver he overtook flashed???

No, the people I'm overtaking would be going very slowly. I always do as close to the limit as safety allows. The last time this happened I was Southbound on the M50 and the car in front of me was doing about 80kph so I overtook them. when I pulled back into the left lane they flashed me. The time before that a car was merging. Once they had merged they wouldn't accelerate and stayed at around 70kph. I was not tailgating them and as it became clear that they weren't going to adjust their speed I overtook them. When I got back into the left lane they flashed me.

I'm wondering are these people just odd or am I doing something wrong that needs to be corrected?

It's the car I'm overtaking that flashed me and not any other vehicles in the right hand lane.

I know a lot of trucks (and some cars) will usually flash an overtaking truck to let it know when it's gone far enough to pull in again..... could it be someone letting you know that it's safe to pull back left? Seems a bit daft for cars to be doing it to cars, though....

The speed limit on a motorway is 120KM/HR.I often overdo this limit. If your driving at 80-90km/hr on a motorway you are driving dangerously. This has to be a wum.

Ya I see now after OP's post after yours.

Mabey the op stays behind them too long or something? Hard to know without being there and seeing it for myself. If its only happened twice I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've met some idiots who do things even the man above wouldn't understand!

I have often being flashed by people I have overtaken on the Motorway including last week..:)

You sure you are being flashed and it's not just the car behind hitting a small bump in the road causing its lights to lift and drop making you think its flashing you ?!

Some OLD fuddy duddies sometimes flash others whom they think are SPEEDING !

Maybe check your rear lights all work and work correctly, I have noticed a large number of rear taillights will all flash instead of the indicator the brake light and taillights all dim and flash.

Majority of M50 is limited to 100 kph.

I cannot see how 80 KPH is dangerous. above 120 KPH certainly is, however.
