As a corollary to the how many lights on your commute thread, how far can you get from your house without meeting a traffic light? For the purposes of this, you can take a circuitous route to avoid a light but you must take the most direct route otherwise. You can use roads or a (legal) off road bike path to bypass a light…

Not sure I understand exactly...I live just beside a large-ish square which I can cycle around indefinitely, but in terms of a point-to-point route...less than a kilometre I'd say

I reckon I can get from home to the Cloghran roundabout near the airport about 10km. If it wasn't for the light on that I could get all the way out into the countryside...

Yeah, people like me who don't live in Dublin have it pretty easy. It's true, if I go into town, there is loads of traffic lights. But I can bike to Kinsale without seeing one (15km) and from there on out I'd probably be able to bike all the way to Kerry.

That said, I do need to use a back path to get out of my estate. Those pesky pedestrian crossings.

About 1.6km, ignoring the set of pedestrian lights at a park because nobody actually crosses there. With the pedestrian lights, 650m or so.

About 50 metres! (And it has an induction coil which doesn't "recognise" my bike so when I'm out and about very early I have to wait around for a motorised vehicle or become a ninja).

4.71km with out getting off the bike or crossing my path once (although you do end up closer to my house than the distance travelled... or...

If I took the shortest route to work I'd avoid traffic lights but then I'd hav to contend with steep hills.

I live just outside Kinsale so I never come across traffic lights when I'm out. The closest I actually get to stopping is normally going through Kinsale when my stealth cloaking is involuntarily activated and I become invisible to wandering pedestrians.
