Course theres always broccoli too. Feckit have both!
I'm going to make a chili or sort of bolognase and top it with cauliflower mash, its my new favourite thing.:D

adding a knob of goats cheese to Cauliflower or Broccoli mash is a real winner in my house, with a bit of cayenne and plenty of slat and pepper.

    Ooooooh god, sounds yum.....
But cheese...I'm sort of trying to keep the dairy lowish...cept for yoghurt this morning and milk in my tea. Might save that though for a non yoghurt day though!

Also, thought I should let everyone know theres a paleo bread for sale in Nourish on Wicklow st! Its by a new company called DetoxRetox and theyve just started supplying a few places. Its expensive but tastes yum! Theres 3 kinds, a cinnamon and raisin one-my favourite, then an original one, then an oregano and something else, so more savory. The girl who runs it is totally paleo, like cant even handle the sweetness of sweet potato! Its mostly through intolerances but fair play to them I'm sure they will do well.
Would absolutely love to have done that...

I'm having meatloaf in tomato sauce for dinner - what to serve with it paleo peeps?
Lots of veggies in the sauce will be more than enough e.g. Peppers, onion, celery etc

cool, cauli mash & brocolli it is :)
I'm going the have a blt for lunch - without the bread. I amde the guacamole last night from the nom nom recipe and it's fab. Avocados are only 38c for 2 in Aldi at the minute.

banshee - that burger recipe seems like too much work for me! I just had meat, italian seasoning, pepper & onion salt in mine. It was very tasty M&S angus mince though.

Doolee, the nuts sound great. I fried off some cashews in coconut oil and a good bit of sea salt & they were yummy. I'd like to try to do spiced nuts, I was looking at the salt & pepper cashews in Aldi, and the amount of other ingredients - yuck!
Doolee - have you tried the hot smoked salmon in Lidl/aldi - very good also.

Lotwan , your hash sounds excellent. So are you going to continue on to a whole60?

Thats a really good idea for bolognese! As I always associated it with pasta and spagetti! Think thats what I will be having for dinner tonight!

Is there a link missing? Quinoa as a grain isn't paleo, or is it? I have heard it referred to as an ancient grain though.
Dinner was yummy and extremely filling, I could have left the non paleo corn really.

    3c0a3cd1.jpg

Quinoa isn't a grain. "Quinoa is a grain-like crop grown primarily for its edible seeds. It is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal, or grain, as it is not a member of the grass family. As a chenopod, quinoa is closely related to species such as beets, spinach, and tumbleweeds." (wikipedia)
It seems to be a controversial inclusion in the paleo communities, from what I've seen on some forums though!
I've been following the Paleo diet since the start of Jan - finding it great, and not difficult - although in all honesty, I haven't had to make too many changes from my old diet.
Going out for dinner on Friday so I hope I'm not too tempted to stray from the path then!

You guys make your meals so much more decorative than mine. I've been primal since November and just end up eating simple meals like steak cooked in grassfed butter plus a bowl of veggies. Looks like I've got to take my meals up a notch in aesthetics.

Just had a look at their site, not a bad price considering how expensive coconut flour is. Especially if you froze it in 2 slice portions so there was no wastage/piggery.
I used to make bread out of flaxseed, but it also contains a good bit of parmesan which wouldn't be paleo.

Is it Transforms recipe you use? My friend calls over for tea & chocolate every Friday and It would be nice to have a "treat".
day 3 off the sugar here, had my cappucinno with no sugar, no chocolate!
I know I'll be required to quit dairy at some point :(

Not sure why you would give up the dairy - I find most people I work with function grand on butter, yoghurt and some sheeps or goats cheese.

It was one of my own creations...threw in everything but the kitchen sink...coconut oil, almond butter, desiccated coconut, cacoa nibs for the caffine hit, barely grass powder, bit of stevia, chopped almonds, acai powder, and linseeds or something I think. Forgot the protein powder ironically. Everytime I make them theyre different! I dont aim to create an amazing tasting bite or i'd eat the whole lot so its more the ingredients, as little sugar as i can put up with and whatever amount of good things, protein, fats I can fit :)

Dairy is a bit of a thing I know. I'd love to be rid of it just to see is there a difference. Its such a mucus forming food and gives lots of people horrible sinus probs which I've not had but realised recently my nose runs like theres no tomorrow when I eat yoghurt during the day. I think as long as its an organic milk or fermented type dairy - blue cheese, kefir etc then youre fine. Easy on the cheese too!

Also, forgot to ad, check out susanjanemurrey.com website for recipes. Lots of weird and wonderful alternatives for treats. A little heavy on the agave all of them so maybe stevia would be a better option when possible. I've made loads of her treats, and theyre great....at least I think they are:)

    You guys were busy today.

DCD... I will do a Whole32 & then I'm going out to dinner for my birthday. I'll decide when I'm out if I want to comply with the Whole30. Who knows what I will do then but I can tell you this now. I love the way I feel. I love the way I am sleeping. I love the way we are all eating and that I can quickly & evenly stabilise my blood sugar when it goes low (as it has a tendency to do) unlike before when I would chase a low with carbs and then spend hours trying to cope ith the after effects.

I made chorizo & sweet potato hash for lunch yesterday & it was yummy :-)

Two of my favourite things ever! Please do tell how you made it! Theres a chorizo and bean stew I make and I LOVE it.

I went looking for the recipe but then I remembered I changed it so much there was no point finding it LOL

    3 small sweet potatoes
1 small ring chorizo (Aldi Spanish chorizo)
    1 medium onion
    3 cloves of garlic
    1 bell pepper
    1 tsp marjoram
    Salt & Pepper

Chop the sweet potato into 1/2" "cubes"
Cover in a pot with cold water to 1" above the sweet potato
Add 1/2 tsp salt & bring to the boil
Boil for 4 minutes until the fork will nearly pierce the flesh, drain & set to one side
Thinly slice the chorizo & dry fry in a non stick pan
Finely chop the onion, garlic and peppers & add to the frying pan
Fry until the onion becomes translucent and the peppers soften
Add the sweet potato & marjoram to the pan & cook until the sweet potato is soft
Add salt & pepper to taste
    Serve & enjoy :-)

I'm getting the impression that you guys are a bit more relaxed about the carb content of your din dins. Ive not even read the proper paleo books, bar flicking through the odd one in the book shop but between podcasts and marksdailyapple i think I know what I'm at. I really do not want to be someone counting calories and logging food items and weighing stuff so I suppose from that perspective, Im just keeping the carbs as low as possible. Sweet potato is a bit of a treat for me. I've a heavy weights session at the crack of dawn tomorrow so had one tonight. Defo makes a difference and god knows theres nothing worse than wanting to have a great session and the energy just isnt there!
Anyway,...suppose its just interesting to see what everyone elses version of paleo looks like!

I'm probably having them once or twice a week, most days my carbs are sub 100g which I'm happy with. I am someone who counts calories and logs on MFP though.

Just found the ingredients for that bread there:
Organic Coconut Flour, Coconut Flour, Fresh Filtered Water, Pasteurised Free Range Egg Whites, Pasteurised Free Range Whole Egg, Organic Linseed, Baking Powder (aluminium-free), Baking Soda,Organic Sea Salt, Lemon Juice, Guar Gum, Coconut Oil.

    tumblr_lltzgnHi5F1qzib3wo1_400.jpg

Guar gum or even that much coconut might be troublesome for those with IBS but I'd like to give it a try. I wonder could I get it in Galway?

So is 100g the sort of maintenance level of carbs they recommend or are you meant to count calories or whats the max calories you should hit do you know DCD?
Also, potential stupid question but is MFP my fitness pal? I put up my todays munchings on Fitday.com which i used a couple of years ago. Very american and then theres the whole paleo bar thing, or how do you count homecooked food without getting the calculator and weighing scales out! Suppose thats what it takes really!
    Damn this could get complicated!

Evergreen health food shops should be your best bet, the one in the headford road s.c does a large selection of foods.

Yeh I was just going to say this as well. I saw Tiana coconut flour in Evergreen's. You can get coconut oil in Dunnes as well.

Yeah they don't do it in evergreen I know that. They do a glebe farms one that's nice but you have to bake it yourself and it needs to be toasted.

Yummy lunch - fried egg & bacon , spinach mushroom and some leftover cauli mash. DElicious.
El_D, they seem a small Dublin company I'd be surprised if they had a distributor for outside Dublin, time to get your pinny on!
I'm doing baked camembert tomorrow night - now what to dunk in instead of breadsticks or other bready things??

    Yikes really??

Tried making transforms paleo energy treats this evening and I think they may be an expensive disaster :( I omitted the chocolate but it didn't look there was any way it would hold together. So I hurriedly melted the only chocolate I had in the house, Lindt orange and put that in the second half. I think I may end up with very expensive rubble!!

Eta I take it back, they set!!

Yes my friend suggested that & I think it sounds lovely. Damn the airmailes & the stinky pee :D I'm also going to try cornichons.
Followed by STEAK! I'm trying it the Heston Blumenthal method so it has been air drying/ageing in the fridge since yesterday!

Sorry Doolee, never answered this. I only know what I do myself - I log everything on MFP, yes my fitness pal, and my goal is 1600 cals and no more than 100g of carbs (so about 25% of my total) and most imprtantly I want these carbs to come from veg & fruit, not pasta, bread, rice etc.
On MFP you can create a recipe to get the n.vs - doesn't copy over very well but you get the idea.
But you're not trying to lose weight are you? I wouldn't bother starting all this if you're not, just eat the stuff on the allowed paleo list to satiety and you'll be fine!
