Default on Irish mortgage

What would happen to me if I defaulted on my Irish mortgage? Am now living abroad,in the US, with zero intention of returning home. What would happen if I called my Irish mortgage company and told them I am not going to continue paying the mortgage. Can they drag me through the US courts to get their money?
