Functional Groups of amipramine

    i was just wondering whether anyone could tell me what functional groups amipramine has. I know there is a tertiary amine but i was just wondering whether there are any others. oh and by the way, my friend told me that the the benzene rings aren't functional groups but i was just wondering why because in a question i had about aspirin, it asked me for the functional groups and a benzene ring was one of the answers along with an ester and a carboxylic acid.

    Do you mean Imipramine? It has 2 tertiary amines, and two benzene rings.

    When asked for functional groups it is really a matter of what's relevant, sometimes you could consider a benzylic carbon to be a functional group if it'll let you do more reactions...

    When in exams, imagine they just want everything named, they are far less likely to take away marks for you adding in more things that you think are important (provided they are actually in the molecule) vs leaving them out...
