And what about YouTube, which is a US company and who are making millions through advertising, being allowed to host copyright material such as the 1993 Royal Rumble which i'm just about to watch.

Thats what SOPA would be able to stop outright.

It'd basically be starting anew if they have to change site/name and everyone has to re-reg. tbh i'm surprised it was a straight call rather than "you must ban these and future bans for infringing users within a certain time limit" .....but maybe the court/accusing parties already exhausted that avenue.

i don't understand the duplicate link deal though; how can there be many different links to one file?

You can/could copy a link straight into your account, basically a second link for the exact same file.

Personally, I don't get what they did wrong. A link was reported and it was usually deleted. You can't expect to report a link and then someone in mega upload goes through the entire system to delete every single file that is related to the one single link that was reported.

Ah, didn't know megaupload had that service.

I would've thought the onus would've been on the copyright holders to report every infringing link they find, duplicate or not....not report one and expect megaupload to scan every hard drive and server for a matching file, EVERY time a file is flagged!

I dunno how this stuff gets through to be honest. I must read up more about it.

SkyHD is dearer but just the Sky+ is normally free with any new subscription. Sure you could blag one if you had to.

Aren't torrents much more traceable? Besides, Rapidshare and Megaupload speeds are/were far superior to the average torrent speed in my experience. A lot more can be hidden in torrents too.

Not that I've ever used any of them for anything illegal of course. All purely for research purposes

Yep, see torrents are generally always up; showing the direct link to the infringing file. But when eg megaupload deletes a file, that's the end of it. AFAIK that's why MPAA push for torrent users' IP address but not megaupload users.

I guess the best of both worlds would be some kind of usenet. Or private torrent site with an IP blocker. Apparently! :p

Fu*king hopeless performance by Liverpool this evening, watching Dalglish's signings out there I wouldn't blame the owners if they told him to go f*ck himself if he looks for money to buy new players. If he goes for the names being rumoured i'd tell him the exact same. Andy Carroll still has done nothing to convince me he deserves to be employed as a footballer. Better hope City are spectacularly bad next Wednesday. At least the Irish sides did well in the Heineken Cup this weekend.

Ah crap; Fileserve, now Filesonic, and I gather Filejungle as well are all down/only letting u download your own files (i.e. useless). Death of the online lockers. Rapidshare is the only big one left. (for now) :(

Amazed in two days since SOPA, bastards have pretty much wiped out online storage lockers.

Fileserve is working for me. Im only downloading an document that is in the public domain of course >,>

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,014 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Fileserve has deleted the accounts of the biggest uploaders so some are still working. :(

Filesonic have disabled filesharing - so you can only download files you already have! So useless.

Best not download for a while methinks. I've already enough on this to get in trouble though like 99.99% of the internet users.

Sad times indeed. RS is forever the old reliable though. Thankfully I've downloaded enough footage to keep me going for years anyway.

The Mayan calculations were correct, the world is ending this year, starting with Internet filesharing :(

As my brother used to always say; if it took 10 men to make it, it will take 1 man to break it.
All them sites have gone, but soon enough alternatives will be available.

Cant you already get back on to megaupload?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

There is no shortage of file sharing sites, the problem is the most popular ones are being taken down making it harder to find stuff. A simple google search would have found most stuff as it would be uploaded to Megaupload, Fileserve, Filesonic etc mulitpal times over. The doesnt look to be the case now.

I can see Rapidshare taking back its crown very soon. In the past few months it was already starting to regain popularity after they sot themselves in the foot by changing their reward system and driving a lot of uploaders away.
