The sky was alive in Donegal tonight with the northern lights, I missed the best of it (wrong place then when in the right place twas cloudy) not the best photo's but you get the idea

It needs lots and lots of things to work right to see them but they reckoned tonight was the best chance to see them. My photos don't do it justice at all

but it gives you the idea. Here's a better photo of them when they were at their peak tonight at about 8.30.

As somebody mentioned before it depends on many things - apparently this year the solar activity is peaking, hence the Northern Lights can be seen in more southern areas than normal. You can become 'a friend' of Astronomy Ireland and they will send you regular updates on what's happening and when. Have a look here if you fancy that. The service is free.

i'm a leafs fan.... but still supportive of other canadian teams. especially the jets! glad of their return to winnipeg - they left in 1996 to become the phoenix coyotes.. but the jets are back now!
