socialism doesn't mean €40000 a year + pension just so you know before you sign upto anything..

Israel is a illegitimate state and should not be in existence.

It is entirely possible to make a similar statement in respect of just about any other state on this Earth and if one tries hard enough even back it up with reasonable sounding arguments.

Arguing the inverse is surely the more unpopular opinion.

Especially so in Ireland and on Boards.

It doesn't mean that, and it doesn't not mean it.

I myself would call myself a form of socialist, and a €40,000 a year salary is not something I have any problem with in itself. People who dismiss socialism en bloc generally don't seem to have a particularly well informed grasp of the entire movement or its history.

Socialism does not have to mean high taxes, it does not have to mean outrageous welfare bills, and it does not have to mean miserable income for everybody.

That argument is not as illogical as you think, to see why replace socialism with something you dont like.

A Spanish fascist is having an argument with you, and you say "fascism has never worked, he says "do you think democracy is now working", can you logically say

"well at least its better than fascism"

    You can.

The people who use the "socialism has never worked" line though are almost invariably actually mixing up socialism with communism (or stalinism if one wants to be specific/pedantic).

Yet when one mixes up capitalism with fascism (or nazism if one wants to be specific/pedantic) its called a Godwin ?

Well, thats not what I did. I replaced socialism with fascism ( not Nazzism as it was Spanish fascism) and capitalism with democracy.

I take the point on socialism, if you mean welfare states etc. Mixed economies work, most of the time.

    2. You are aware that there was no serious British army presence in the state during WWII, and that we were essentially left untouched?

People often overstate the wartime tactical importance of Ireland, especially when one considers the loyal population of Ulster as it was in the 20th century, and even a significant preference for British rule amongst the Irish themselves, whose politicians after all had only come 'round to the idea of complete independence during WW1.

Apologies I meant in a broader historical context not just the 20th century, the Swiss also have the advantages of being able to mobilise a large proportion of their population at short notice, and a very good arms industry. Its right behind Russia and china on the list of places that its a very bad idea to try and invade.

I think you need to check the history of britains occupation of ireland. As a starter maybe try looking up the plantations, famine and partition. None of these were particularly beneficial to us (in my opinion). Perhaps you have a different theory.

There is no evidence of Germany having any particular strategic interest in ireland in any case.

Aside from plan grun of course, Im not disagreeing about those points, what im saying is that we were better off then we would have been with the french or spanish in charge when they eventually tried to take over given our straigic location.

RTE is a good public service and worth the license fee, I think we would all be poorer without it.

That a large majority of western civilisation has been drafted into an economic system thats greatest defence is that it's better then other failed systems.

I dOnt believe the problem is so much the systems, as it is the peOple trusted with the running and regulating them. Oh and the neutered response of the conformist western people helps.

Not me. I don't watch it so the only difference it would make in my life is to leave me €160 richer per year.

As a lot of people claim, but if i was to do my own private nielsen ratings on what i view, with the news, current affairs and RTE sport which is IMO excellent I watch more of that channel then any other.

I will admit RTE radio has gone downhill, its just Newstalk have better content.

Can't speak for others but in my case it's definitely true. I rarely watch tv and never listen to the radio. When I do watch telly, the only Irish channel I watch is TV3 which doesn't get any of the license fee. I can honestly say that I wouldn't miss RTE at all. If I heard they were shutting it down I would probably feel sad for nostalgia's sake but if it quietly went off air, I doubt I'd notice.

Women treat men a lot worse than men treat women

Women have an unfair advantage in interviews. Most guys doing interviews are so dumb that a twinkle in the eye or a low top will be enough to get the job. Qualifications and experience are no substitute for the juvenile fantasies of Irish men in the workplace.

Recruitment websites are a scam and should be shut down without proper evidence that the jobs they 'advertise' actually exist

And here is a dinger . . . most people are stupid

Irish people looks condescendingly on foreigners (like me) who love Ireland for no reason (I have reasons!).

I wish I was Justin Bieber's manager; that little b*tch must make so much money!

I think gingers are the most beautiful women in the world. Even more than Brazilian women (I am Brazilian).

I wish Brazil's population focused less on soccer and cared more about education, health, etc...

I don't care if a Republican wins the next election here in America. I just want a president who'll help us go forward.

I think people (read high school students going to college) should follow their passions and study what they love instead of studying something just for the money (oh, how my family disagrees...).

There's some more stuff, but I don't remember now.

irish dancers look like travellers on a hen night.....runs and ducks for cover :D

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

Define "working", socialism creates more poverty than capitalism and wastes resources. Read a basic economics book.
