Hyper-masculine (and how hyper-masculine can clothing for a small boy actually be?) clothes a no-no, and sparkly clothing and dolls encouraged? Seems like the parents are imposing femininity on him despite claiming to raise him as gender-neutral.

I was shocked when I read this story yesterday, it's absolutely ridiculous. Those parents should have that kid taken off them, they have no idea of how to raise a child. They didn't want to stereotype the kid but yet they dressed him up in a ballerina's tutu?! Like WTF? They are completely contradicting the whole "gender-neutral" thing by blantantly dressing him up in girls clothes. That poor kid is gonna have serious identity issues as he grows older.

And eh I always thought Sasha was a GIRL's name, not a boy's name. Sounds to me like those parents really wanted a girl, but got a boy. So they did as much as they could to make the kid seem like a girl, so called him a girl's name and disguised the dressing him up in girl's clothes and playing with dolls as being gender-neutral. Yeah, you ain't fooling anyone. Stupid idiot parents.

I know a guy all right whose son is called Sasha, but it strikes me as a very girlie name and I reckon the kid would get grief for it.

Sasha is a masculine gender name. Russian, I believe. I find it odd when people give the name to their daughter.

Unfair to use a child to make a point though - not an appropriate method of tackling accepted norms IMO. The kid's a boy - to hide that biological fact from him is ****ed up IMO. Otherwise let him discover what he enjoys himself - and if that's glittery nail-varnish, more power to him - but using him for a social experiment is appalling.

How is sparkly clothing feminine as you put it? Did you tell the male ice skaters on Dancing On Ice about that?

The issue is with societies bullying on what is stereotyping rather than what the individual is wearing.

Sparkly clothing is still feminine - the ice skating guys are just wearing a costume, doubtful they'd wear a sequinned t-shirt and jeans to the pub.
Maybe associating it with femininity is a social construct - probably is.

Fair enough if the parents think forcing a "gender identity" on their child is wrong but is forcing the child to grow up gender neutral any better? Treating their child like a lab rat for a social experiment is is pretty cruel.

Sparkly clothes are is just as feminine as " skull-print shirts and cargo pants" are masculine imo. Possibly even more so, plenty of women's tshirts etc have skull print? Banning one and not the other is ridiculous.

Agree with the opinion that they just wanted a girl and therefore this was a bit messed up.

Oh, absoluely. But I was just commenting on the the issue of the possibility of bullying. Poor kid's getting it from both sides here, unless he does actually want to wear the stuff. But while people are condemning the parents attitudes, their accepting the playground's.
