2.0 tdi - gearbox oil change

    Having picked up some millers gearbox oil before Christmas its now time to change, tried searching for a good guide but there doesnt seem to be one, so hopefully tomorrow ill be able to throw some sort of walk through together.

    Manual boxes are straight forward enough. Just drain and refill with the correct amount. The problem with some VAG's is that the drain and fill plugs can be a standard hex head or a security spline head..if its the latter, you'll need a special socket.

    ensure you can open the filler plug before letting the oil out through the drain hole...

    The 6 speed in mine is the security type.

    You know what size it is, I borrowed one for the last change, would rather have my own

    Its an M16 security spline IIRC. I Got one from Crystal agencies a good while back, wasn't that expensive from memory.

    Just looked there, you can get them on ebay for about €20.

    Couldnt get the nut off it needed a ? Torqe size 17 socket the middle bit was size 15 so sounds special might have to do some diggin in the motor factors.

    Only got the engine oil changed.

    I've used them a few times for garage equipment. Much cheaper then here and free delivery too.

    Went to three differ3nt motorfactors today for this and they were all closed. :mad:

    Are things that good that they can close on a saturday. !

    Most of the ones I deal with close early on a saturday.

    I'd be surprised if they had one of these sockets in stock, I'd say they'd have to order it.

    223,000km im using millers crx 75w90 nt, supposed to be the best oil for it according to oilman (internet oil king)

    I have less than half that but I find the changes a bit notchy. Maybe this will sort it.

    Well this will be my third oil change on it since i bought it with 40,000km, gear changes are silky smooth once its done every 80 - 100k.
