Spikes with orthotics

Do runners who wear orthotics generally wear them when they are running cross country in spikes?

Am thinking of doing a few cross country races but am worried about injury if I dont wear the orthotics.

Incidentally, another question.....when does the Cross country season wrap up more or less?

    Thanks in advance.

The last XC on the BHAA calendar is March 21st, and they start again in October

I tried wearing my orthotics in my track spikes over the summer. It was a hilarious failure for me!

I'd suggest that you test them out during a training run to find out if they work or not.

I do. I find they help when the ground is a bit harder than expected. Defo test them out first because there seems to be less room in spike shoes to fit them. It probably depends on the type of orthotic, whether they'll fit.

I haven't run too many XC races, but do you really need the orthotics? From what I've seen most people do their warm up in their 'normal' runners, which in your case would have orthotics in them and switch to spikes just before the race. If the ground is soft, then you'll need the spikes, but the impact should be much reduced. If the ground is hard, you can just wear the normal runners. As I said, v limited XC experience so take with a grain of salt!

i usually don't, i've found that the time it takes to run the race isn't enough to make any impact. i've tried wearing them in different brands and types of spikes but they never sit right. you can get orthotics made specifically for spikes, but we all know hw much orthotics cost.. i sometimes use just thpse insoles you can buy in any shoe shop for my spikes but rarely find i need anything at all.
