Single mothers on their mobile phone on the bus, talking for 30+ minutes

Has anyone noticed this phenomenon? In my last 3 bus journeys I have seen 3 single mothers in the buggy areas of the bus, talking out loud into their mobile phones. (with everyone on the bus able to hear.)

Now, the bus journey for me is 30-40 minutes long, how can they keep talking for that amount of time non-stop? You wouldn't mind, but on one occasion I saw the womans child (she had a baby in a buggy too) was asking for her to tie his laces, but she wouldn't pay him any attention at all. She just kept speaking loudly into her phone.

Before I got on the bus the child was taking payphone receivers off their holders and hitting them against the payphone, yet no response from his mother. IMO he was trying to get some attention from her. Another single mother had a newborn baby and was talking straight for 40 minutes. Has anyone witness this type of behaviour, and if so, what do you think of it?

BTW, I know they are single mothers from their lengthy conversations. They let everyone on the bus knows this from the multiple times they talked about "the new fella".

and if they were irritating you, why did you listen in?

How did you know the mothers were single? Or is it only single mothers who talk out loud on the phone?

It's kinda hard not to listen in. The radio is down low and they are talking very loudly. I had no earphones so I couldn't listen to some.

I had my iPhone but I find it bad manners to play music directly from the iPhones speakers in front of everybody.

So what exactly is your problem here? if she was married would it have bothered you she was on the phone?

Perhaps she was in the process of teaching the child to tie his own shoelaces and thought the best way to encourage him to do so would be not to answer him?

Seriously, the single-mother/traveller/Roma Gypsy/Dole etc. threads on AH have gone really downhill. I remember they used to be something to actually have a discussion about.

I know what you mean op. I've been on the bus and sometimes you'd hear a skanger women just yapping on... excessively loud so the whole bus has to her.

Why don't you mind your own buisness? what about people watching what other people are doing all the time and listening in to peoples conversations.
Stick a pair of earphones in your ears ffs.

I'm talking about using the phone in general, I never stated people only calling each others partners on the phone.

I don't know who the woman on the bus was talking to. I'm talking about phone etiquette.
