Yea Hollywood is racist -- against white people --

I Am Legend - the protagonist of the book was of English/German descent with blonde hair and blue eyes, so basically as white as white can get. Then in the movie suddenly he's black!

Badass - an elderly white guy beats the crap out of a violent and thuggish black fella on a bus, this inspires a movie and then wham bam thank you mam, he's suddenly Hispanic.

    So yeah.

    :pac:

Ever hear of "Precious" which was directed by Black American director Lee Daniels who also produced "Monster's Ball". Or, how about any of Spike Lee's movies with "Malcolm X" standing out among them? Then there was "The Color Purple" which was directed by Steven Spielberg but featured an all-Black cast.

Don't get me started on Spike Lee.

I am aware of all those films, but the first things that pop into my mind are the god awful comedies I listed. Sorry if that somehow offends you.

No she's not. She's a nun, I saw a couple of documentaries about it each Bank Holiday afternoon for the last 20 years on TV.

What about barbershop 1&2, bad boys 1&2, boyz n the hood, life, coming to America, down to earth, nutty professor, soul food, aeroplane, get rich or die trying, norbit and biggy.

That's just a short list of movies with primarily a black cast, I think it's better comedy, it's hard to find a good continuously funny comedy in the cinema too. It's all like jackass and the hangover which I did like, but the 2nd was a flop.

Does anyone else have any decent movies?

Because of Americas racist slave past they seem to feel the need to fall over themselves to prove that they arent racist. And black Americans milk it too.

The reality was that the Slave hunters were afraid to venture into Africa at the time. They just stayed near the coast.

They knew though, that it was just a short matter of time before there would be yet another tribal war happening in the area.

The victors would then happily sell their prisoners/countrymen to them for a few quid.

This is an uncomfortable truth that Afro-Americans don't shout about too often..

This thread reminds me of the Hooper lecture bit in Chasing Amy - which I can't post as I'm on my phone.

    Shawshank Redemption, Red was Irish.

And they turn it into a black character
But they kept the Irish line

    Hollywood hates the Irish

Speaking of racist Hollywood films, does anyone remember the two urban/street/fresh/fly/dope robots with ebonic accents in Transformers 2? One of them was bucked tooth and they both couldn't read. That was pretty bad.

How the hell is Hollywood racist though?

I could probably write a partial dissertation on this subject but I doubt it would be received with an open mind.

    To hit the key points:

Black female actors tend to receive gigs as the supportive, sassy best friend to the main White female character. This is the genesis from the original "Mammy" caricature:
    http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/mammies/

If they aren't cast as the motherly friend, then they play the female sex vixen who is walking sex but not wife material. This is known as the "Jezebel" caricature: http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/jezebel/

Of course, then we must discuss the standard of beauty and how most Black American women are not viewed as falling within those perimeters. Women like Halle Berry, Beyonce, and Paula Patton tend to be recognized for their beauty because of their lighter complexion, good hair, and other physical attributes that seem to fall within the normal standard of beauty. Whereas celebrities with darker skin tones and thicker bodies tend not to receive the same
    amount of attention: http://gmwilliams.hubpages.com/hub/Why-are-Dark-Skinned-Black-Women-Portrayed-so-Negatively-in-the-Media

Then there is the whole genre of films in which a privileged White American feels compelled to rush in and help the oppressed Black folk from the pressures of society; these hero films (The Help, The Blind Side, and so on) tend to highlight the heroism and sacrifice of these individuals. However, there are not as many films that feature Black leads who are heroes within their own community.

This new "Red Tails" is being produced by one of the biggest hollywood names of all time, yet Lucas found it hard to get funding for it because the studios were afraid it would be "too Black". Yet, the story of the Tuskegee Airman is a story of American heroes and highlights how much of a positive impact these fighter pilots had in WWII.

A common theme is the white man going abroad and benefiting the locals. Even tonight on RTE2, one might have seen Orlando Bloom teaching the arabs irrigation.

You left out the 'magical negro', btw.

Because it is irrelevant. There were Native tribes that slaughtered other tribes but this does not excuse the systematic and purposeful policies of the United States government in their ethnic cleansing agenda against Native tribes.

So what if other African tribes sold the enemies of their tribes? Whenever did Africa because some unified entity in which everyone got along? It was fragmented before it was divided by colonial powers, so why do people feel it is necessary to throw out the "Africans sold the slaves to the traders" thing as if that somehow wipes away 200 years of slavery and another 100 years of Jim Crow laws? It does not excuse babies being sold away from their mothers, religion and basic education being denied, or any other inhumane treatment that slaves faced during that period.

She's not, AFAIK. Goldberg is a stage name because her mother thought "Johnson was not 'Jewish enough' to make her a star". :pac:

She has Judaism, Buddhism, Baptism and Catholicism in her ancestry but says she doesn't align to any man-made religions.

    Oh really?

The Irish were treated badly when they first arrived too.

Somehow, they managed to do okay for themselves & by & large didn't use the 'blame culture/race card' to get along with their lives.

Instead, they worked hard. made connections in the right places & wound up running the show for the period of the Kennedy administration.

I'm delighted that Obama is now in charge.

Try talking to the Black community now about discrimination now.

Someone else is always to blame, innit though?

The Irish were allowed to sit wherever they wanted and eat where they wanted when they got to America. There was nowhere near a level playing field there so your argument is invalid.

It's been 50 years since the Civil Rights movement ended.

ETA: It's funny how you use the Kennedy argument since black Americans were still second class citizens at the time of his election. But carry on with your rant there.

And lets not forget 'Flight Of The Phoenix' re-made to portray a black man as the brains of the bunch & the Bruce Willis trilogy of films where blacks were given prominent roles of computer hacks! They'll be re-making Jesus of Nazerath with Morgan Freeman as Jesus & Halle Berry as his mother!

Is Jeremy Kyle in the States now? That's great news! I hope they can bring some diversity to it though. I never see any white people on Jeremy Kyle, only black people (and all Americans, funnily enough) on the show washing their dirty laundry in public, whinging about their rights & screwing each other all day.

well TBF the last film i liked with an all african american cast was probably friday or dont be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood, there are plenty of good and a few great african american actors and actresses, all of who get there fair share,

but studio heads will always be white men mainly cause most heads of studios are jewish, and i dont know any big jewish africans :D

When someone makes nice soup for another someone they usually put real thought and care into it; then another someone eats that soup and they normally feels good on the inside! when people make watery crap soup, it makes others that have to eat it feel sad and empty! ideas are the same!
