Netflix's CEO has said they would be going after the movie rights Sky currently owns, whose exclusivity to the films expires this year. Sky obviously won't let them go without a fight, but if anyone stands a chance if nabbing them from Sky, it's Netflix.

Also loving the fact that there is a huge range of devices that support Netflix, unlike say Sky Go!

What's wrong with 5-10 year old movies?

Leads to an Interpol raid, a court case and a beating.

In answer to a previous question related to bottlenecks when streaming I think you'll find on most home broadband offerings that the BB is the bottleneck, not the wireless. With a minimum wireless speeed of 11Mb/s and more usually 40-50Mb/s the 2Mb/s-4Mb/s speeds of most ADSL lines will definitely be the issue. If you're on a 25Mb/s or 50Mb/s package from, say UPC, you may max out your wireless ok, but not on ADSL.

Which version is better between 360 and ps3?

Well I tried both yesterday. They both have there pros and cons in terms of picture quality and UI.

I am edging towards the ps3 for (I think ) better picture and handier UI.
Xbox has nicer looking UI and better fast forward option.

I still need to suss them out better. But will probably use the ps3. I use that as my media player more so as it is.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I didn't find any official Netflix thread yet (maybe it's worth creating one ?).
I joined Netflix yeaterday and tried to acces it on my Samsung C5500 Blue ray player. After required firmware upgrade - no Netflix. I searched through website and they are divided opinions wheather this blue ray player is Netflix cabable or not. Mine is not it seems.

Since I have xbox I decided to give it a try, suprise, you need to have Gold account to be able to use it. Since I had the option to create Gold account free for month that will work for now but this is just for month.

If I decide to subscribe permanently than except PC, table or phone I have no other option to watch movies through Netflix?

are there any other "devices" that are offering Netflix app?
I tried to find a list of Samsung devices supporting Netflix on their site, but there is nothing.
Samsung.ie website gives no result when entering netfilx as search word.

I assume that my worries are premature, since the service is available since yesterday, but it looks that not all was prepared for the irish/uk release.

I think the 360 version has a better layout but PQ and sound they are both the same.

I would not recommend anyone to pay for it.

So it's actually not free then seeing as someone is actually paying for it.

Yes. I tried the US site via a proxy and it displayed a message about Travelling with Netflix highlighting the differences you might see.

No, when people pay for sky they get sky go for free. So, my friend has sky and pays for it. Now he does not use skygo so I use this service for free on my xbox. He does not get a discount if he does not use skygo. So if I use it his bill does not increase therefore technically it is free for me!

The product would not be available for you to use, unless your friend was paying for a Sky subscription, therefore, it is not free. :pac:

They're 5-10 years old, I've probably seen them already, & while they fill the huge catalogue Netflix have, they're a waste of space as I wouldn't want to watch them again, & those I haven't seen likely aren't worth watching (or I'd have seen them in the last 5-10 years).

    Clear ?

Well others may not have seen them and would like to or they may have the audacity of fancying a rewatch so theyre not a waste of space. Do you go into Xtra-Vision or HMV and complain about all the used shelfspace on older stuff?
And if you havent seen a film since release its not worth a watch.......really? Youre definitely missing out on a lot id say.

I have to say I agree with banchang here.

If you're like me and you're somebody who watches quite a lot of movies in a given year (which I would assume most of you are, if you were interested in paying a subscription to watch movies!), then you will most likely have seen a large quantity of the popular movies that NetFlix has to offer.

I looked through the catalogue just there before reading anything on this thread and thought... wow... they're quite ...old... and I've seen a lot of them.

However, it's worth noting that I'm someone who wouldn't regularly watch a movie I've already seen a second time round unless I really, really liked it.

Sky's main movie channels show 5-10 year old movies yes... but not very often. They mostly show 2-4 year old movies from my experiences.

Anyways, I'm sure a lot of people will really get good use out of this as it is good value but it's not for me and I'm sure a few others would agree.

If you cannot see this on the PS3 XMB, it will be the same problem as when trying to install RTE player. If you start a game, then hit the center button on controller, you will be able to see the TV Services. Weird I know but seems to happen when you have nothing installed under this tab. The XMB hides the TV Services for some reason. If you do this and install the netflix application, it will always show up on XMB when PS3 starts.

The selection on Netflix sucks so I think it will be cancel before end of trial unless it drastically improves.

So what competition is there for Netflix in Ireland? Any other company doing similar?

Some of the Movies on offer on Sky tonight:

    Love Actually
    Wayne's World 2
    Superman 4 (after Superman 3!!)
    Indecent Proposal
    Jackie Brown
    Pretty Woman!

    Need I go on?????

But, back to the point. Some people (myself included) would watch some movies over and over because of the enjoyment they get. And that's where a lot of Netflix's customers are gonna be. Watch this space!

so...apart from xbox etc any model numbers for mainstream bluray players etc that support netflix? My Lg bluray won't :(

Just finished watching my first Netflix film on the PS3 (Tron) and so far so good. I will give it a good try out over the one month trial period and then decide if I will keep it, but at €6.99 per month it is tempting.

Edit: Just tried this on another PS3 and it is working on multiple consoles at the same time watching different content :).

I am hoping Sony sort it out for their Bluray players and Samsung for their Smart TV service

I asked Netflix about Sony Smart devices on Twitter but got no reply. Sony are due to lanuch Video Unlimited here soon too, so I hope that they will also sort out Netflix. It's on the PS3 so I don't see an issue.

Screenclick... €18 for 2 new movies at a go. If you diligently watch them (or copy them and send them back) it works out to 8 new movies a month (€2.25ea). They are the most like netflix of old, when they actually dealt in dvds.

As far as on-demand streaming goes, this is the only game in town.

Anyone know if I can use Netflix on my Iomega Screenplay Media Player? I have a WiFi Dongle if that makes a difference!

    Cheers
