Lourdes Hospital, Rathdown, Dublin circa 1930

    Hi, I am looking for any information on the Lourdes Hospital, Rathdown, Dublin circa 1930. I have found that a family relative died there in 1930 and can find no reference to the hospital anywhere.
    I would be glad of any help on this.

    cant think of a Lourdes hospital in this area at the moment - can you post the other registration district details e.g. the Registrar's district as well as the Superintendent's registrars district etc...

    These can help narrow down the search area

    Was that not the old name for the National Rehab Centre on Rochestown Avenue?

    you've got it....

    "The house along with 60 acres of land, on Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire was acquired by the Reverend Mother M. Malachy of the Sisters of Mercy.....

    On the site at Rochestown Avenue the Sisters had a hospital built for the treatment of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, and after extensive alterations it was opened and blessed by Monsignor O’Donnell on 11th February 1918. Around this time the late Archbishop Walsh made an unofficial visit to the Sisters, and expressed a wish to Sr. M. Xaveria, the first local Superior, that the Hospital should be called “Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital”.

    One of my gt-grandmother had phthysis/TB and ended up having a lung removed. She outlived her husband by over 20 years.

    One of my gtgt-grandfathers died from TB in 1879.

    Thanks to you all. Very informative. I have now found that it is The National Rehabilitation Hospital, Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, Ireland. +353 1 235 5501.
