Why don't chippers let you salt / vinegar your own chips ?

I don't understand why they always put the salt on first and then the vinegar. Surely the salt slides off and to the bottom of the bag, vinegar first makes the salt stick. Well its always worked that way in my random logic anyways.

Nah the salt sticks to the chips cos of the heat/grease then the vinegar dissolves it turning the chips(especially on the top of the bag) into one of lifes awesome pleasures!

    Why
People sometimes have the habbit of robbing the salt and vinegar particularly when drunk. A Chinese takeaway near us would never let anyone do it themselves.

Is it because they don't let you do it yourselves in Dublin because you will rob it? :pac:

no because you all have silage on your hands it doesnt matter if you get more on them if you give it to the customers too :p

There was a time when junkies would stroll into a chipper, take the vinegar, rinse their needles and replace the vinegar. May be an old wives tale or just a greedy chipper owner who didn't want to share his vineger, but I was happy for them to dish out the salt and vinegar after hearing that.

No, its €1.95 but you don't get chips with it.....

Dam, its a much better joke when you tell it, rather than spell it....

Btw, you were meant to ask, what's a pasticost?

Probably because bolloxes like me will loosen the top of the Vinegar until it's just hanging on, then wait until the next person uses it.

Oh the fun i had in me younger days :pac::pac:

I let the professionals do their work

I'd only make a balls of it anyway - managing to completely encrust a single chip in salt etc

this may sound daft to you,but when i go to ireland i bring over my own malted vinegar, cannot stand that white stuff you use,

Ah this thread has me DYING for a bag of chipper chips now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,282 ✭✭✭MrVestek

I think chippers that do that shole let you do it. You're right though it probably would end up all over the plaice.

You'd always have people coming in and taking the fish. The last thing you'd want is for someone to get battered.

Do you sea what I did there?

    :P

What annoys me is that McDonalds salt all their chips.. so you don't have a choice in the matter.
