02 Nissan Almera Over Revving

    Hi Guys,
    My Nissan Almera is over revving every time i press the accelerator.
    Any ideas what it could be?

    How do you mean "over revving"?

    Is it that the accelerator pedal is sticking?

    When i accelerate it revs up very high then drops back to normal revs, if that makes any sense.

    I take it that this is when you're actually moving and trying to gain speed?

    If this is what it is, it sounds like your clutch is slipping.

    If you think this might be it, put the car in 3rd gear, with the handbrake on, accelerate slightly and let out the clutch gently. If the car doesn't stall when the clutch is out fully, it's new clutch time.

    Sound like the clutch slipping. The more it revs like that the more damage you may cause.

    Or do you mean that even a small push of the throttle pedal in neutral causes the revs to rise very high and then sink slowly?

    I did as above and the car didnt stall. looks like i might need a new clutch. How much will this set me back? Should i stop driving the car

    Nissan Doctor is probably best positioned to give an approximate price but I would expect somewhere in the region of €350 - €450.

    €400 max would be about right for a clutch kit supply and fit.

    You should really stop driving it as the more it spins/revs the more likely it is that you'll damage the flywheel.Its also likely you'll get stranded on the road somewhere within a very short time.
