Why do people Ignore/Block other users?

Is it a sign of weakness.

    Or,

is it, that they don't have the drive to defend what they truely believe?

Maybe,They don't have the conviction in what the believe to debate their opinions with the people so they the choose to Ignore/Block them.

I think it's a sign that they admit defeat.

They choose to Hide behind their "protective screen".

What do you think/do in these situations

I block people who are bad at trolling ( i actually enjoy and appreciate good trolling) and i block people who are clearly retarded. That's about it.

Maybe they just think the other poster is a raving lunatic and not worthy of attention?

Sick of seeing the same over the top crap from the same people I suppose.

I've never bothered with it at all myself.

Dunno about these boards but I was the target of harrasment by a few posters elsewhere & I just decided to ignore them, rather than wade through tedious baiting...

I do it to hurt their feelings in a way they'll never consciously realise.

Some people just cannot be reasoned with. You can never 'win' in that situation.

Other people's posts are just increadibly annoying to read.

I don't have anyone ignored, but can see why other people might.

Never bothered myself but I suppose its a handy option if you know a poster is gonna rile you with trolling/you're bored of seeing their BS.

I've only deleted and blocked one person on Facebook once. I knew him through a friend of friend and met him once at a party.

The person asked if I was really into photography. I said I was.
He asked if I would give my opinions on some of his photos that he was thinking about putting into a gallery. I said I would.

They weren't photos for a gallery  I'm still traumatised....:(

    How do you block posters???

I have so many to block I will be the only one posting here.

Everything I post will be above argument and always true. Can't wait.

Oh, by the way, I never will, never have blocked anyone.

I take all peoples opinions into consideration, how else can you have a good, open and frank debate/ argument if you ignore other people?

Sometimes I even realise I'm WRONG

The religionists have a few mouthpieces here I may well end up blocking, seeing as they never take anyone elses opinions on board and continue to spout the same logic defying bobbins day in day out.

Never thought of it that way, just see it as a tool to filter out certain people whose posts they dislike.

But, most time you fail to do this "I do it to hurt their feelings in a way they'll never consciously realise" because they never miss you and they never know that you have Blocked them.

    Well, there's an honest opinion.

I've only ever had one poster on ignore but back then I just took offence to pretty much everything he said.
This was several years ago though so no-one ignored now, not even religious nuts.

I don't use the ignore feature though.

Indeed; this - from Charlie Brooker

There's no point debating anything online. You might as well hurl shoes in the air to knock clouds from the sky. The internet's perfect for all manner of things, but productive discussion ain't one of them. It provides scant room for debate and infinite opportunities for fruitless point-scoring: the heady combination of perceived anonymity, gestated responses, random heckling and a notional "live audience" quickly conspire to create a "perfect storm" of perpetual bickering.

Stumble in, take umbrage with someone, trade a few blows, and within about two or three exchanges, the subject itself goes out the window. Suddenly you're simply arguing about arguing. Eventually, one side gets bored, comes to its senses, or dies, and the row fizzles out: just another needless belch in the swirling online guffstorm.
But not for long, because online quarrelling is also addictive, in precisely the same way Tetris is addictive. It appeals to the "lab rat" part of your brain; the annoying, irrepressible part that adores repetitive pointlessness and would gleefully make you pop bubblewrap till Doomsday if it ever got its way. An unfortunate few, hooked on the futile thrill of online debate, devote their lives to its cause. They roam the internet, actively seeking out viewpoints they disagree with, or squat on messageboards, whining, needling, sneering, over-analysing each new proclamation - joylessly fiddling, like unhappy gorillas doomed to pick lice from one another's fur for all eternity.

Blocking posters is for the foolish. Keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer

I have three people on ignore, I'd be really disappointed if I wasnt on someones ignore list though :pac:

Certain people who come out with the same old crap time and time again against people on the dole or Muslims or Jews or whatever don't deserve my time, so I block them.
