My cousins are currently without house insurance as their insurer wont renew their policy on December 23rd as they previously failed to inform the insurer of a small value claim 4/5 years previous. It appears now that no other insurance company is prepared to take them on.

Does anyone know what other company would be prepared to take them on.

    Thanks

Tell them to speak with their mortgage provider (assuming they have one). It's usually in the t&cs of your mortgage that the property is insured so the provider may be able to arrange insurance to cover their interest. And best tell them not to withhold any important info next time.

Cheers but mortgage provider wont provide cover either and they are also saying that its up to mortgagee to ensure house is insured

I would write to the bank detailing all the companies who have refused and ask them again will they insure them under their own scheme.

If they still say no then I would remind them that although the obligation is on you the person with the mortgage to take out insurance, that the insurance is in place to protect the banks interest aswell and that they'll now be in a position where you're living in a house that's not insured.

May have slight chance of getting previous insurer (the one they claimed from) to take them back but they are not obliged to do this. also how did the last insurer find out about the undisclosed claim? did they have another claim in the meantime as this will make it even more difficult for them. Alway always disclose claims........

Best bet is to try going through a brokers to be honest.Underwriting criteria on home insurance has tightened up a helluva lot over the last few years and brokers will have access to insurers that arent available to the general populace.
