    Hi

Have just bought a Sony BDP S185 but there appears to be a HDMI issue ,

when I connect to the bedroom tv which only has 1 Hdmi input through a Neet Hdmi splitter , the machine wont turn on ( ie no power what so ever ) but when i pull the Hdmi lead out of the back the unit turns on , the bluray player also seems to be working fine if connected directly to the tv . I have used this splitter on numerous other devices with no problems and i cant go dragging Hdmi cables in and out everytime I want to change source , I have tried different cables and different ports on the 3 way splitter but to no avail i am baffled as to why I am getting no power at all to the unit through the splitter ( I have heard of no picture off other posts with poor Hdmi handshake but never no power , is it possibly just a dodgy machine as I dont understand why my remote would be affected to prevent the power being switched on

    Any suggestions welcome

    Thanks

This is purely a stab in the dark, but as far as I know, the Sony BDP S185 is HDMI 1.4 and the Neet may be HDMI 1.3....

If the Sony is handshaking ok with other devices it may be a question of compatibility....

According to the Sony site this player is HDMI 1.3 and the Neet HDMI splitter is also 1.3 so must be just one of those things

I returned the Blu ray player and got a replacement of same model , but problem remained, so for some reason this particular model cannot be used with HDMI splitters even though every other Hdmi dvd player/Freesat box/ media player and older model Blu Ray player worked fine, the guy in shop mentioned something about HDMI ports using 9 volt power supply or something along those lines , not sure how this prevents the unit from powering up with the hdmi splitter attached but I am sure somebody out there is is technically minded probably has a logical explanation

In the meantime i have ordered a cheap component cable from Amazon to use on my Freesat box , this will free up my solitary HDMI port to use on my BDP S185 Blu ray player

    Thanks
