Someone in the pub was complaining about the Christmas bonus for those receiving social welfare not being reinstated by the current government. Told us how for 10 years he had relied upon it do as to survive the Christmas period and since it was taken away he's had to spend December scraping by counting his pennies. Only in Ireland would someone who hasnt worked in over a decade expect a bonus for not sitting around all day drinking.

Had a black tie, free bar, casino royale themed xmas party in the most lavish place.

Also got given a box of chocolates (Baileys) and a mug.

Discovering my 4 figured xmas bonus on the 4th.

Its also 3.20pm and I am leaving work to hit Kilda beach with beers now.

Ireland is great for Xmas though :o ....I remember when....BLAH BLAH BLAH something nostolgic ......

In my first job the guy was pretty sound and used to give us 10% of our annual wages as a bonus at christmas in a card which was pretty cool, I used to think I was loaded getting 100euros till I saw my mother getting hers, Not saying how much but alot more than me

We got a choice of hampers. I went for the one with champagne, wine and chocolates. That's New Year's Eve sorted.

I work in the PS so no bonuses for us but I did take my team out (out of my own pocket) for a few drinks & a bite to eat and gave them each a selection box plus a couple of boxes of roses etc to share; does that count?

Honestly, I guess I'm just a scrogge; but I'd rather the company skip the Christmas party too - and just pay us that much more.
I think it's fairly important that people working together celebrate together. People can be working and sometimes living together for years, it can be important that you know and trust the people you work with. I hate the way we're all becoming individuals working in places where we don't care about the job or the people around us.

Yup, that was the point where your pub mate lost my sympathy. . . Moaning about money but still has enough to get to the pub. Right.

I'm back in education now so not working, but last year I was working for an IFSC bank and got nothing at all, not even a company-organised Christmas party.

The worst thing was not the fact that we got nothing; it was that in previous years, in a particularly ebullient flourish, staff in my section had been flown to a party in Switzerland for their Christmas party and given very generous spending money.

I guess it was all part of the madness of Irish society, and the Irish financial services, prior to the credit crunch and later the wider economic collapse. We can't realistically expect serious bonuses at Christmas anymore - unless for the likes of staff in the retail area, many of whom can make greatly enhanced sales during the Christmas period.

Got a 5k bonus rolled up into my salary in Jan or Feb 2011, so no bonus anymore.

no bonus but they pay for the meal out as part of the christmas party and the ceo makes a speech at the dinner thanking everyone for their hard work this year.

We also get the week off as privilege days, which i love but think it may be a bit too generous

I only started my new job in Nov. My lovely boss has paid us for all our days off without it coming out of hols Plus a voucher for the shopping center we work in.
The store is indepently owned and just opened so I thought that was very generous :D
