What did Torres expect, they came in Oct/Nov and he was gone in Jan.

Can only see Pool being given money to replace Lucas, a strker I would imagine would be from sales. Nearly 60m was spent on strikers last year.

But that 60m was generated from sales was it not?

    Torres 50m
    Babel 6m
    N'gog 4m

He could have been expecting them to spend in January?

Why do people on message boards assume that transfer funding decisions use the same emotive logic that angry supporters would use?

"There's no way he's getting a penny more after blowing X last Summer!!!", etc.

Is there any evidence for this?

I would have thought it the opposite. I can't imagine FSG putting their overall investment at risk by folding their arms because a previous cash injection didn't have the desired effect. These guys will take a look at where we are, what we need to get where they want to be, and how they can effect that change. If they are given a choice between a deterioration in their asset, or boosting it with some investment, I suspect they will choose the latter.

A lot of clubs are not keen to spend in Jan as the prices are over inflated. They were just in the door and getting there head around this whole 'soccer' lark,he wanted to go and is just trying to make some crap up.

I reckon he'd have preferred to stay, but only if someone along the lines of a Man City style Sheikh came in and was prepared to spend instantly. There's obviously more to his departure then what has been made public, however the crux of the issue was that he wanted success, and felt he was running out of time to achieve it. Can't really blame him for wanting to leave

I don't think any decision not to spend would be made out of stubbornness, I think it could be down to the money not being available, wanting to wait for the summer, or the owners having little confidence in Kenny & Comolli's ability to spend it properly

I think if the owners don't have the confidence in Kenny and Commolli they have to show them the door asap.

There's nothing to suggest that either?

I'll grant you the Jan vs Summer decision alright, but that's not what your average angry fan says.

I'm not saying that the owners have no confidence in them (and I did say specifically their ability to spend well, as oppose to overall job performance), my point was that it's possible, and would be a more likely explanation for them not providing funds then just plain stubbornness

I hope im not the only one who would rather see carrol being given a serious chance from now to may rather than a hastily bought overpriced jan signing.

Carroll could be a different player with Suarez not playing,as funny as it sounds.

It sounds reasonable at the moment any time a player is moving forward with the ball they are looking for where suarez is even though carroll may be on the pitch.
This results in some passes which arent the best option.
Players should be looking at what they can do to get the ball to carroll in the box, and this will only happen when they stop trying to put most balls to suarez.

This constant need to pass to suarez also results in teams giving orders to mark him in numbers alot of the time.

Doesn't sound that funny tbh... Suarez is similar to Stevie in that they both demand the ball even if they aren't the best outlet. Every player on the pitch seems to want to get it to either Luis or Gerrard as they are the most capable of making something happen, sometimes to the detriment of an attack.

With Suarez out and Stevie on the bench until fully fit, it forces the team to try something else.

Very true. You reminded me of an incident in the last game when Henderson had the ball and Gerrard was in front of him demanding it. Hendo used him as a decoy and sprayed the ball out left. Don't think Stevie was too happy :p

Made me laugh anyway, but then again, I am easily amused :D

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Marko Marin... ticks every box of a player we should be looking to sign. Pace, trickery, vision, excellent crosser, good shot on him. Ideal.

Get in Big Jack on a January 2 month emergency deal as technical advisor

I'd prefer Marco Reus but unfortunately don't think theres any hope at all on that front :( He reminds me of a young Ronaldo almost!

He's excellent, but I prefer Marin. Seems to have a smarter head on him, if you know what I mean. He can pick out a pass that no one else could.

Another mention is Junior Hoilett. Looks a serious talent in a very very crap team

A lad that plays in Spain. He's not even 5'7'' though so I don't think he has what it takes to make it. Stoke would make Sh1t of him on a cold Tuesday night.

Which Ronaldo, I haven't seen him play.

From within the EPL Liverpool could do far worse than pursue Adam Johnson from City. If he wants to leave to be a guaranteed starter Liverpool would surely be a viable option.

Not sure City want to let him go, or if indeed he wants to get regular first team football, he may be quite happy with being a squad player.

Hoilett would be a very good signing. A lot of pace which is what we are missing. I do find though, he's a bit of a head down and run player - which is fine in a team like Blackburn where the sides you face leave plenty of space at the back (see us for example). He wouldn't get anywhere near as much time and space playing for us.

Johnson would be a great signing, no doubt. City won't let him go though, so may as well forget about him.

If we're buying from England, I think it'll be Hoilett with his contract expiring come EOS. That said, I don't think we'll actively be pursuing a right midfielder.

Ah yeah last thing we need is another Ronnie Rosenthal

I agree he has a touch of Milan Baros Syndrome about him, but I'd still consider him a raw enough talent. He'd be available for a cut price in January and we could do a lot worse for a guy that could replace Kuyt in the long term.

Actually fcuk it, I'm throwing all my opinion behind Andre Schurrle as the man to replace Kuyt. Plays mainly as a striker for Lverkusen but played very well when played out wide for Mainz. Would take some bid to get him though. The usual couple million and some magic beans bid from Comolli probably wouldn't suffice.

With Krasic being out if favour at Juve, I'd love us to take a crack at getting him in. If he clicked, he'd be a great attacking right option. Pace, close control, huge work ethic and strong - eye for goal too. Probably wouldn't suit Carroll as much as he would suit being on the right of a mobile, attacking 3 behind another mobile striker.

Carroll V Coloccini could be an interesting duel tomorrow. On the flipside Obertan V Enrique won't be.

Reports of Liverpool enquiring about Darren Bent. I'd take him for 15m. Natural goalscorer just what we need
