Rooney was blatantly fouled and got no free kick just prior to that and he claimed he was looking at the linesman and gestured ''open your eyes!''.

Rooney was never charged, therefore he never had to explain that's what was actually happening. That explanation is just from a 'source at Utd' iirc. The fact his fingers aren't pointing at his eyes is seemingly not important. Nor is the fact that if you make that 'pointing to your eyes' gesture, you put your fingers right up to your eyes, Rooneys not doing that. Suarez shouldve just claimed he was pointing at the moon in that instance

1.why not ? Well, you can if you want to but 12/13 years is a long time to go back looking for inconsistencies. We could all do that for every charge the FA give and find them!

    2. Whats changed? Lots of things are handled differently nowadays than they were 12/13 years ago, do you not think? Right down to what is deemed a yellow and red card has changed! Would Rooney have gotten a ban for swearing into a camera back then? Doubt it.

3.where's the communication from the FA on said changes if any? The communication from the FA is generally poor imo, I won't disagree with you there.

    4. Plenty of previous incidents why "draw the line" now ? I wasn't inferring they've drawn the line now, sure they gave Stephen Carr the same punishment last by and large last season(think there was a difference of £10k in the fine is all) so maybe they drew the line there? We'd need to look at every single incident where a player blantantly gestures distastefully towards opposition fans, to get a good look at the consistency but I can't remember any recent blatant cases that have gone unpunished in the last few years, can you? Maybe here has been, but I genuinely can't remember any. (Any recent example of a player escaping punishment I've seen, wasn't a blatant case of gesturing to opposition fans)

    5. Do you really think that a new rule change with clearly defined penalties will be released by the FA after this banning/fine ? Hopefully but I doubt it as the FA are sh*te at communicating with clubs and clearly defining things.

Footballers are looked up to by adults and children throughout the world, they have a responsibility to act appropriately. Fact is they are role models to millions of people and should behave themselves appropriately. They are getting payed ludicrous amounts of money, they should be able to take a bit of abuse on the chin.

I have never, as a child or adult looked up to a professional athlete as a role model. They have athletic gifts that I don't and they are rich, famous and listened to for that reason only.

This is true for almost all football fans. Unless you have a chance of playing the game professionally they are not people to take life lessons from.

His fingers were arched in the direction of his eyes, all you need to do is look at the picture to see that. That picture doesn't even confirm how far away he was from the crowd, or what direction of the crowd he was facing towards so how your so certain he was gesturing towards Chelsea fans is beyond me!

And before the FA generally charge players, they usually do a bit of investigating first to see if the player has a case to answer for! You should know this as it took long enough for Suarez to be charged for racially abusing Evra.

Don't be silly re Suarez. It's not comparable to the Rooney pic, Suarez's gesture was as blatant and obvious as they come.

There's a video of it. I was gonna link it but the link brought me to the s*ns website so I have no intention of linking that rag so go look at it yourself if you want.

It was in direction of the away fans fyi, a 2 year old would know that ;)

Well your probably right with the amount of time that has elapsed since the Blackburn incident , but as long as the FA fail to communicate new , reviewed or existing rules and penalties then they are fair game to be questioned over any period of time .

Cause as long as they apply ad hoc penalties to similar and identical incidents, and fail to be proactive and evolve with the game be it with cultural or other changes , then I will always have issue with their Al la carte approach to dishing out punishment .

Yeah had a look at it there, he's also looking right in the direction where the lineman would be and he's walking off the pitch after obviously being on the ground(you know, that rule) which would further back up Rooney's theory.

It's the first link to the Sun in that search there if anybody wants to watch it.

Yeah, as I've said on numerous occasions, I'm no fan of the FA. The organisation needs an overhaul imo.

If we draw tomorrow it will be 3 pts from possible 9
9 pts we all though we would get easy, Can we beat Newcastle, With out
Suarez, Probably will score 4 without him in team
    Football is like that,

1 match ban is about right to be fair al the crying about rooney and other players and what the didn't get means feck all . We should take it on the chin accept it and get on with it.
We have players well capable of beating Newcastle tomorrow without Suarez .
I think it might bring more out of other players as Suarez can demand the ball too much at times no matter what position he is in then throws a wobbler when he doesn't get it.
Hopefully Stevie is fit to start and would like to see the following
    Reina
    Johnson skirtel agger Enrique
    Bellamy Adam spearing downing
    Gerrard
    Carroll

I would like Kuyt to play .

Think he is fired up to prove .

Plus I don't think he will be around much longer and could be gone as soon as this Jan transfer window :(

Isn't he on his longest ever run without a goal for us? He'll never get to 50 :(

    Dear Andy Carroll,

If there was ever a time to pull the finger out, and prove that you really can help lead the line at Liverpool FC, it's this Friday evening against Newcastle, in the absence of the little rascal.

Thank you in advance for scoring the winner in a Man of the Match performance,

    Slick.

One match ban for the finger to the Jacksons. Grand. Lesson learned, I'm sure.

True but in the eyes of he FA and the general public, they have to be. Another part is to not bring the game into disrepute. Flipping the bird at the fans generally crosses this line.

No they don't. Once they're not breaking FA rules, or the terms of their contract, its their responsibility to be role models to nobody

They're looked up to because of their ability on the pitch. They have no responsibility for the children of anyone but themselves. I agree that given their wage, and choosen trade they should be able to, and expected to take abuse on the chin, but when they make mistakes, they're answerable only to the FA, their club, their families and themselves. Its not the job of a footballer to act as a role model for others

To the contrary, it's entirely relevant.

I love the hate of Suarez by all the non liverpool fans almost as much as i love his defence by liverpool fans.

Worth every penny you paid for him, Kenny:)

The same with any parent, like the ones were probably abusing Suarez at Craven Cottage with their kid on their shoulders

Why the hate, I don't get it, He's such a honest hard working player,
Never give up attitude, That's why he's hated i think, He's feared so he's jeered
Even FA picking on him, He gets punished while 20 others who have committed same offense walk
Its a witch hunt,Even the ban for the evra incident was given with no evidence, An innocent man in the eyes of any court,Yet not in eyes of FA,or an independent panel? <<<who pays there wages!!! i dunno, FA? LOL

Has to come good for Carroll tomorrow. That save from 3 yards out would have went in for somebody like Ba, on form and on a streak.

Between Carroll, Kuyt, Bellamy, Gerrard and Maxi, a goal has to come from somewhere. 5th is ours.
