Don't suppose there'd be a chance of getting Elbow to do a gig, would there?

Maybe they'd play support to Radiohead?

If Radiohead were to play in the SU I think I'd die.

    James Morrison maybe?

You're gonna live for a very long time, I've no doubts about that.

They could try get you One Direction either. That'd definitely have you screaming like a girl.

Actually, Broni, get Blazin Squad back! :P
Ah Freshers Ball. So Epic! :D

    No Wanted or One Directions:eek:.

Please people, show some appreciation for a real band.

As much as its never going to happen I think Take That should play the SU.

I would actually go to that. What?! They have some good songs :o

    MY MUSICAL CREDIBILITY RUINED.

Also, once again, Adebisi Shank plz!!!!! I won't shut up about it until they play :p

Seriously as much as i'd like it to happen NUIM never gives good bands a decent crowd. Jape played to <50 people. I'd be amazed is AS drew more than that.

Stupid majority of students with their crappy taste in music.

    I wouldn't down your music credibility tbh:P.

Take That are actually a very talented band. They have definitely suffered because of the "boy band" image but they are the one band to overcome all those stereotypes.

The likes of The Wanted and One Direction have same-sounding songs and they are just singers not musicians.

Take That are musicians as they can all play instruments and write their own songs.

But yeah music taste is an issue with the "majority of students". Stupid Calvin Harris selling out, do people even know the guy is just a DJ now?

Serious amount of ironing being done in this thread.

Here luh, ye didn't heed my advice on MJEX. I've gotten over the disappointment of that but please god listen to my next suggestion. Odd Future are coming over for a short venture to these here isles next year. They're playing in The Olympia on the 2nd of April. YOU HAVE GOT TO BOOK THESE GUYS FOR NEXT SEMESTER!!!!!!!

I'm finished in Maynooth now but I'd risk driving up there on my provisional licence on the motorway to see these guys playing in the SU, and by playing I mean destroying the place.

Tell every lie under the sun you need to get them here, offer them copious amounts of weed, hell you could even sacrifice Bertie Ahern :pac:. I mean it when I say it this is a huge opportunity to get guys that are on the verge of hitting the big, big time.

Here are a few videos of their performances for anyone interested.

Dude, OF would be lost in Maynooth, they'd get maybe 50 students to go to it. And there is no way they could afford the fee.

I'd hate to see them in that crappy little SU venue too...

Upon further reflection I have to agree with you. I just got a bit excited last night after hearing they're coming back again.

Guess the gig in The Olympia will have to do.

Oh and my request for Messiah J and The Expert still stands.

I'll skip the Olympia, i'm guessing they'll play Primavera again.Which'll do nicely.

Pretty sure MJEX aren't gigging at the moment.

Well I severely doubt I'll be going to any festival this year with the Euros. Gonna be scrimping and saving to get to Polkraine. €23 to see them in Dublin is more within my budget this year.

They probably aren't. Sure I can always hope. Thought they were fantastic when I saw them 2 years ago.

I'd love to see some Irish indie/mathrock bands like Adebisi Shank, BATS or The Cast Of Cheers play the SU. A bit of a stretch, but Everything Everything would also be amazing.
EDIT: Also Warpaint, Heathers, sleepmakeswaves, Fang Island...
SHAMELESS 2ND EDIT: And So I Watch You From Afar, 65daysofstatic, Caravan Palace...

Really? It'd be unreal, they'd tear it apart :pac:

What if the SU did something with one of the club nights in Dublin like they did with the Propaganda night? Give Junior Spesh or Forward/Slash or something a buzz and see if they'd do something from the SU?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭Idjit

If Cut Copy played in the venue I'd actually die of happiness (but not before going to see them!). I don't know if it'd be possible to get them but if it was, it would be amazing!

There'd be more of them on stage than in the audience.

I agree with you though, but the place always poorly run.

Put it this way David O Doherty played Newbridge for E14, could have easily gotten him for the SU for a tenner and filled the place.

They put Jape on the same night as one of the most important Irish soccer matches.

    Lots of potential, never realised.

Didn't David O'Doherty play last year?

He very may well have. This year though he's a much bigger name and definitely could have been gotten for a reasonable price. He toured Ireland and was rehearsing for a recorded gig.

It's not really a matter of who the person playing is, it's the scheduling and missed opportunities that annoy me most.

Really? Haven't seen much of a difference myself.

But they did get him and have gotten other names so I don't really see what your problem is here?

Maybe he turned down Maynooth this year or scheduling wouldn't work.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

He actually played here two years ago as well as last year. Three years in a row would probably be slight overkill. Not that I don't see your point lordgoat.

Yes he's a much bigger name, he's on da tele a hell of a lot this year, way more so than ever before, as far as i'm aware he wasn't asked.

If you can't see what the problem is and think the standard of events is decent, you need to get out and see what's out there more.

There's never been a better time for Irish music and stand up right now imo, and yet NUIM gets so few decent acts to play.

Any idea when we will be hearing about this year's Gathering festival?

I really need to get a kickstart for my 2012 gigs.

Thankfully I'm going to Noel Gallagher in the O2 in Febuary so I won't need to suggest his new band.

I reckon there's a lot of people around the college that will be hoping the Gathering doesn't make a comeback. For the price that it costs the format should be changed.

No point in putting on some quare band at 2 or 3 in the afternoon when a lot of the students are honestly still in bed at that hour.
